Owner description: Over the next year, we will be expanding and improving the main museum entrance and admissions area, including the addition of a new cafe and gift shop, all set to open Summer 2015. In the meantime, history is still happening here! During construction: The West Paces Ferry Road entrance will be closed to vehicular traffic. Guests should enter the History Center from Andrews Drive (3299 Andrews Drive NW). The admissions desk and museum gift shop will be temporarily located inside McElreath Hall. The AHC's exhibits, historic houses, and gardens will remain open 7 days a week, and our monthly programming will continue as usual during construction. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to improve the Atlanta History Center. The Atlanta History Museum is located at the Atlanta History Center. The Atlanta History Center also features the Swan House mansion, Smith Family Farm, the Margaret Mitchell House, the Centennial Olympic Games Museum, and five permanent exhibitions.

“Great museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

If you love history, the Atlanta History Center is a great place to visit. Their Civil War exhibit is extremely comprehensive and could take hours to go through.

The mansion is also worth visiting and I loved our tour guide as she was extremely knowledgeable on the history of the house and the owners. I would recommend going during Spring/Summer to take full advantage of the outdoor trail and get to see the trees and flowers.

It's a great value for the price. If you are NOT into history that much, then you can still get some enjoyment out of it, but definitely not worth it as much.

Thanks for your review of the Atlanta History Center! We are so pleased you enjoyed your time here. We would LOVE to have you back in the spring or summer. The gardens and grounds are fantastic that time of year.

“History and more”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

The museum is loaded full of civil war items. The best is the Tulley farm in the back. It is a Civil War era farm that was very interesting. We enjoyed that the most

“Lack of focus”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

Pleasant place, marvellous gardens and beautiful houses at neighbourhood. A real nice trip in a not so crowded museum. The Civil War exposition should be compulsory to all american students. What a lesson. Makes everyone proud to live here and makes everyone think about the legacy involved. But, then, it has a lot of paralel expostions without any link with the main subject. The Olympics hommage to the city is nice, but I think, in a wrong place. Since you leave the Civil War exposition, you need a time of meditation and reflection about life and all this other subjects, mess it up.

“Something for all ages”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

Had no idea what to expect, and assumed at least one of my 3 kids would complain but it was really fun. There was something for everyone, and it certainly helped that the Swan House was in Hunger Games (very exciting for our youngest). Beautiful neighborhood to drive around as well.

“Went for Swan House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

I can't really comment on the exhibitions inside the History Centre, only the inside grounds. I went for the Swan House which I LOVED but also checked out the model farm and ate lunch at the Swan Coach House. I also coincidentally arrived at exactly 11am on Veterans Day so I happened to catch their 1st annual ceremony out of the front which was pretty cool.
