Owner description: Over the next year, we will be expanding and improving the main museum entrance and admissions area, including the addition of a new cafe and gift shop, all set to open Summer 2015. In the meantime, history is still happening here! During construction: The West Paces Ferry Road entrance will be closed to vehicular traffic. Guests should enter the History Center from Andrews Drive (3299 Andrews Drive NW). The admissions desk and museum gift shop will be temporarily located inside McElreath Hall. The AHC's exhibits, historic houses, and gardens will remain open 7 days a week, and our monthly programming will continue as usual during construction. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to improve the Atlanta History Center. The Atlanta History Museum is located at the Atlanta History Center. The Atlanta History Center also features the Swan House mansion, Smith Family Farm, the Margaret Mitchell House, the Centennial Olympic Games Museum, and five permanent exhibitions.

“Must See While In Town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

I tagged along with my wife on a business trip. I had been to Atlanta airport multiple times for connections and never stopped. This was a great opportunity to see the city. Right behind Stone Mountain, the history center may have been my favorite stop.
The displays were top notch. The property is huge. It has the Smith family farm that is a walking tour. It is set up great. You get to tour the house and the slave quarters with a guide. Another part of the property has the Swann house. This was a fantastic piece of architecture.
Do not miss this when visiting!

“Just What I Wanted”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

I really enjoyed the tours of the Smith farm and Swan house. The exhibits were wonderful. The grounds were lovely and it wasn't overly busy. Don't miss lunch at the Coach House...the frozen fruit salad is amazing!

“History”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

Extremely interesting I could have spent 2 days there. The grounds are beautiful. Many aspects of Atlanta and it's start I was not aware of. I was sorry so many buildings from the past, have not survived Atlanta's growth.

“Plan to enjoy the gardens too.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

The landscaped gardens offer a peaceful retreat in the city, especially in the spring when the azaleas and dogwoods are in bloom. The history exhibits change periodically, so check with the website to see what the current offerings are. Weekdays you might run in to a school group taking the tour.

“Good View of Atlanta”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

The museum gives you a lot of information on Atlanta and how it grew. Was a little disappointed in the Swan house, but it's included in admission price. Parking is free.
