“A Hidden Treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

Wow !! from the moment you walk through the big wooden gate, you know you have found paradise. The sound of trickling water coming from the many water features, the amazing colours of the well kept gardens, and the extremely warm welcome you receive from all the staff, make the start of your stay unforgettable. Once you have settled in to your lovely, traditional, well appointed room, you can treat yourself to a cool drink at the bar, before indulging in a superb lunch with lots of delicious dishes to choose from,.... and the desserts are something else!!!, again the staff cannot do enough for you. Then off for a relax round the lovely pool, where there are enough sun loungers and parasols for everyone, after a much needed siesta and a refreshing swim, one of the local walks will get you ready for a quick change and another visit to the magnificent restaurant for dinner........the only fault was, we only booked 1 night, but we will definitely return.

Room Tip: All the rooms we saw were lovely with private patios, we had number 10 and we loved it.

Thank you for your enthusiasm Lesley - it is always such a pleasure to know that people have had a good time with us.

We hope very much that you can return to see us again. You are not a million miles away so you really have no excuses not to come to Molino again soon!

Your comments are greatly valued.

No other hotel stirs such strong emotions in me as the Molino de Santo and I suspect I am far from alone in feeling this way. The hotel is a living, breathing tribute to 30 years or so of dedication by Andy, Pauline and their remarkable team towards creating a genuine oasis from the rigours of everyday life. We do not go every year, there are other parts of the world that require investigation and very interesting they are too but returning to the Molino is the only place that genuinely feels like we are coming home. Like the songs of The Eagles (for my age group) and the Olympic Games, visits to the Molino have become part of the soundtrack of our lives.

I have tried to capture something intangible in this review rather than compliment the rooms or the food or the pool (lovely as they are) because that does not necessarily distil the essence of what draws you back. It is more the rhythm of life there, expertly orchestrated by the entire team, a collective ethos that creates the perfect environment for relaxation that in turn allows you to enjoy the best quality time with your loved ones. Its why most of us go on holiday but so often things are not quite perfect.....here they are.

Thanks guys for putting your heart and soul into it for all these years. You have created an extraordinary force for good.....a hotel for the ages.

Thank you Reviewer for saying such lovely things about Molino del Santo.

It is such a pleasure to read such lovely words - I will definitely get them translated to share with our brilliant staff to reinforce what they should already know - they do an amazing job.

I understand that there are lots of places to visit in the world but it is great to know that we occupy a special place in many of our guests' hearts.

Look forward to seeing you again whenever you decide the time is right!

Best wishes

We stayed here for the night of my husband's birthday in order to have dinner in the restaurant having previously sampled a delicious lunch. Our superior room was very comfortable and perfectly acceptable for a 2 star hotel. Dinner was delicious and the setting gorgeous. We spend half our year in Andalucia and, unlike a previous reviewer, regard this as a very special place. Very little research would reveal that the hotel is the destination, not the area around the station. We will definitely return and would encourage anyone looking for a night or two of rest and relaxation, helpful friendly staff and delicious food to book in now.

The Molino del Santo is hidden away but not too far from beautiful Ronda.
Once you enter the main gateway you enter a world of tranquillity and the sound of splashing .water.
Warmth of welcome is guaranteed. Rooms are old world and very comfortable. Cuisine is excellent and if like me you are a vegetarian you can be sure that this is not a problem.
The Pool and surrounding garden is an oasis of greenery and tranquillity.
We do hope that we can return soon

You felt the tension sap away the moment we walked into the hotel and it didn't disappoint at any level we arrived for lunch it was great. Service was great from there on. The room was nice and quiet and cool just a short walk to the fantastic pool. When it came to leave the staff helped and didn't rush us, so we stayed for a fantastic paella wow and back on the train.

Thank you Stuart and Max for your very kind words.

I am delighted that we were able to offer you to stay in your room beyond normal check-out time so that you could enjoy a paella before catching the train. Paellas are best eaten at lunchtime in my - and the locals' - opinion. A bottle of Rosado wine, some dappled sunlight under the willow tree ... heaven!

When guests' rooms are needed by our normal check-out time of noon, we also have a small courtesy room which is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The room has a shower and loo and means you can change before travelling onwards.

One hour from the tourist inferno of Ronda this fabulous British owners hotel offers peace, spacious clean rooms, a huge cool pool and lots of good vibrations. Stay here at least one night - and remember to have dinner in the excellent restaurant.

Thank you for your taking the time to write this review for us. Some enquiries we receive do not confirm when they realise we are about a few minutes outside the town of Ronda - but you are quite right to point out that there are great advantages to staying with us - nearby in a peaceful spot - if you want to relax and kick back.

Would you be interested in being our Copenhagen sales agent?!!!

The hotel gardens and the terrace are absolutely beautiful, as is the pool area with its lush flower beds and lawns. Unfortunately though, for me, this was the only positive of our stay at this hotel. The actual location of the hotel is not great and please don’t think you’ll be staying in a charming white village because you won’t! This hotel is not in the main village of Benaojan itself, but in Benaojan Estacion, which is nearby and really has nothing to offer there apart from the station. The immediate surroundings of the hotel are not at all attractive. We really wanted to stay at the Molino just to relax and chill out, but found ourselves using it as a base to go to other places.

A plus point is that there is a very picturesque train journey that can be taken from the station right down to the coast and is well worth doing. The trains are, however, very infrequent, but the hotel reception has a timetable.

We had reserved a superior double room which unfortunately did not live up to expectations at all and was vastly over-priced. I hate to think what a standard room is like. Sorry to repeat myself, but it really is not worth the money and is not a superior room. I was extremely disappointed and upset as it was far, far below the standard I had expected. It was very basic and uninviting. The room also had a terrace with two very worn chairs and a table on it. In fact, the furniture in most of the public areas of the hotel, and in particular the lounge, is very old and shabby.

The restaurant also was a complete disappointment. The first night we ate from the set menu and both had to send our main courses back. The restaurant manager was concerned about this and persuaded us to give them a second chance on our second night and not go further afield to eat. We decided that lightning couldn’t strike twice and that we’d give it a go again. How wrong we were! Again, we were bitterly disappointed and neither of us ate our main course. We didn’t even mention it or complain to the staff that night; we were just very disappointed with the hotel and pleased to be leaving the next morning. Breakfast was the same by the way; very lame.

Throughout our stay though, I have to say that the staff, with the exception of one, were charming and tried their best to help.

To sum up, we have travelled extensively and stayed in all types of hotels in all sorts of locations. We live in Andalucia so are well-used to local standards and expectations here. I don’t think, in fact I know, that I have never been so disappointed in a hotel. I cannot for the life of me understand why it receives such rave reviews and it sincerely does not deserve its Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor

Room Tip: Sorry, can't help as I wouldn't risk staying here again

I would like to make it clear that this reviewer is the wife of Jack N whose comments are below so these two very disappointing reports refer to just one visit.

I can only reiterate the comments that I made to this lady's husband that of course we are very frustrated when anyone has such negative feelings about aspects of our hotel and restaurant.

We ask all of our guests for feedback via a questionnaire and use these comments to assist us to plan our policies., although many people say things like "Please don't change a single aspect ", "This is a Very Special Place " - as well as all of the hugely complimentary things that people feed back on Trip Advisor. Nowhere is perfect though and we do take all constructive comments very seriously and use them to influence our planning decisions as we work to ensure that we offer the best possible experience to our guests.

It is a source of great pride to the whole team at Molino del Santo that every year we provide many hundreds of people with a wonderful experience which they repeat regularly and recommend to their friends. 70% of people visiting the hotel this year have been before - some of them very many times.

Evidently these guests chose the wrong hotel for their requirements and we are very sorry about that. However we do not believe it is chance that we have been awarded a Travellers' Choice award for every one of the last five years based on the feedback from a huge number of visitors.
