“maEnjoyable Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2011

We really enjoyed our stay at the Woodstocker. David, Dora and Daisy were very welcoming, and our room, The Bradford was very comfortable, and immaculately clean.
We really loved the rain shower in the bathroom, and the huge Kingsize bed. The English
breakfast is amazing (especially the black pudding), and we really appreciated the kitchen with its tea/coffee making facility and the lemon drizzle cake. We met lots of lovely people,
and Woodstock is one of the prettiest villages we have seen in America.
Stay there - you'll love it!

We had a very comfortale stay in a large and roomy suite complete with soft leather loungers and a huge flat screen TV. The lighting and plumbing fixtures are so interesting and whimsical. Breakfast was delicious and the owners are a sweet and entertaining couple.

We chose the Woodstocker Inn primarily because the owners have made particular efforts to create an eco-friendly environment with comfort and flare. Someone commented that they didn't think the comfort and room decor were worth the cost....I have stayed in many Inns, and often you find very old, musty furniture, rugs and accessories. David and Dora's attempt to update the B&B traditional decor and design to reflect a more contemporary style absolutely lands without sacrificing charm and comfort. This was by far one of the cleanest Inns I have ever stayed in. The "no shoes" policy in the house directly illustrates the innkeepers attentiveness to cleanliness and preservation of their hardwood floors. This is also a very spacious house with many seating areas. We made ourselves at home without feeling intruded upon. David and Dora are friendly without being overbearing, so you can feel as though you have the privacy afforded in a hotel and the coziness of a home.
About breakfast, I can understand why some folks are turned off by the European style breakfast that is offered, however these folks are extremely accommodating to your preferences. We asked ahead of time for vegan options, which David was more than happy to accommodate. He prepared a delicious tofu scramble which I have never seen offered before. Additionally, I believe they are willing to simplify menu items, so if you just want eggs and toast, ask for eggs and toast. If you're looking for frozen, "gourmet" apple pancakes that I have been offered at other B&B's, find an IHOP. We'd all do well to stretch our culinary palettes to include LOCALLY SOURCED and ORGANIC ingredients offered at mindful places like the Woodstocker. The only potential downside I would alert others to is that this Inn is not dead center of the little town. It is about a five to 10 minute walk, which we enjoyed, but others may not be thrilled about.

Room Tip: We were upstairs street-side in the Lincoln room and were not disturbed by street noise as others co...

We liked this B&B a lot for it's uniqueness and more modern design. The innkeepers were friendly and helpful. I would recommend this to a family member. The only downside is the breakfast. We weren't aware that they only offer traditional British breakfasts and the choices did not appeal to us at all. Aside from that, it was a lovely stay and walkable to the downtown area which was nice.

We are always keen to hear any comments from clients regarding their stay and thank them for taking the time to post on TripAdvisor. This is truly the only way that our lodging business can be informed and thus ensures we are being consistent with our aim of delivering high standards.

We would like to clarify a small issue on our breakfast selection. We cook all food hot to order and source from local/organic sources. The inn offers a European style, rather than just British, with home made muesli, fresh fruit compote as well as porridge and even deviled kidneys upon request. We never offer such US staples as french toast and pancakes, and do exclude heavy sticky pastries, as this does not reflect our heritage. Our breakfast style has been commented on in numerous reviews on TripAdvisor, guide books and also by following 'Enter Here' at our home page to experience our unique food style.

There are a some fine inns located in Woodstock village that do offer a more traditional lodging and prescriptive breakfast style with fixed seating times etc. We pride ourselves in standing out from the crowd and continually strive to be not 'Just another New England' Inn!

A good B&B to stay in if you're into a rather unique B&B experience. The owners are lovely folks. I would not say the room decor and comfort were worth the cost. The breakfast was quite good though offering more "American" fare in addition to the traditional UK foods would be helpful. The location is good and a close walk to town. Hiking trails are immediately behind the Inn.

We are delighted that these clients observed that we offer a difference of style with our accommodations. We also strive to be 'Not just another New England Inn'!

Our now legendary breakfast, with all clients choosing options off a menu such as the 'Full Monty' or the even larger portioned 'Fat B*stard' seems to satisfy most clients expectations, and we also offer more modest and healthier options! The breakfast style allows us to never have fixed seating times or fixed prepared food selections, with everything being cooked to order from local/organic ingredients. As our heritage hails from Europe we have never offered any US inspired food dishes. With 24 hours notice we will even grill you a kipper or make real Scottish porridge served with whisky and maple syrup!

There are several fine inns located near us in Woodstock that will offer a client a more traditional breakfast and accommodation style. We pride ourselves in standing apart from the crowd and believe this is reflected in our website and numerous reviews, which have resulted in the inn receiving 10 national and international awards since we redefined the business 6 years ago.

As to value....this is a very subjective issue and we know that some of our competitors offer cheaper prices, but we believe there is more to value than purely price.

We had the fine experience of facing the worst of the hurricane from our front row seats at the inn. Water from the mountain behind the inn swept down the drive and threatened to flood the inn as the river in front crashed full speed ahead, breaking apart porches from houses, carrying propane tanks down river, tree limbs and even cars. Throughout it all our innkeepers David and Dora forged ahead with intrepid confidence to keep the property safe and the guests in good humor and well fed. Daisy their beautiful dog added to the charm. The inn itself is charming in a clean modern fashion, with comfort and luxury in mind. Of course the overflowing chocolate in bowls, use of a guest kitchen and amazing English breakfasts cooked to order helped to create a memorable experience even without the hurricane.

This place is great. The trip was almost canceled due to the hurricane but they, in true British fashion, kept calm and carried on. They were awesome at communicating with us possible difficulties due to the water being down in the town and as soon as they had water were open and operational immediately. I wish I could list all the amazing things about this inn, but I will try to keep it short in hopes everyone will take the time to read this review.
1. The innkeepers and AMAZING. David and Dora paid attention to every single detail. Their mindfulness and consideration made us feel so completely taken care of. It was such a nice relaxing break from normal everyday life.

2.DAISY!!! Sadly, we cannot have a dog right now due to moving quite often with the Air Force. Being quite the dog person I frequently tend to monopolize other people's pets and D2 had no problem with that! They were so kind in letting me play with the dog for pretty much the entire stay, and let me tell you, I would be hard pressed to find one that was gentler and better behaved.

3.The inn itself was beautiful, charming yet modern without being at all cold. It made me feel like one of the cool kids just being there. Our room (the Richmond suite) was amazing, the bathtub extraordinary and the bed super comfy. The tea station was so nice to have available, the candy made us feel like kids again, and the library was well stocked and welcoming. They even had a great selection of cds we took full advantage of.

4. The town! Perfect New England charming little town with amazing food, great hiking and lovely people.

I could go on and on about how much we loved this place but you really should just go there and see for yourself! There was nothing I would change about our stay and we look forward to visiting in the future for foliage season.

Oh and one more thing, the sausages are amazing! We went and bought a ton to bring home with us because we couldn't get enough!!
