“A lovely inn in a lovely town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2010

Ardmore Inn is a lovely old house in an excellent position in a beautiful town. We were disappointed with our room (Tarma) but the very comfortable bed made up for that. Charlotte is the most wonderful hostess - so welcoming and unbelievably helpful. She knows more than any guide book and her restaurant recommendations are great. And her breakfasts are amazing! Not only fabulous food but the table beautifully decorated every day. There are lots of interesting things to do around Woodstock - we especially enjoyed our tour of the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller mansion.

We stayed for 2 nights as a base to explore south Vermont. The Ardmore Inn was really well situated close to the lovely high street full of great shops and restaurants of Woodstock. Charlotte is an excellent host providing information and ideas on foliage drives and things to do, and places to eat. Nothing was too much trouble.

The interior of the Inn is beautifully decorated, filled with comfortable furniture and arty pictures and books which are great for browsing by the fire. Breakfasts were the best we had during our tour around this part of the US, with fresh fruit, freshly baked scones, omlettes or waffles etc and endless tea or coffee. Room was tastefully decorated and relaxed decor, lovely and clean and we felt instantly at home. I really felt it was excellent value for money, and I really hope we get to go back and stay again as it was fantastic!

Very enjoyable experience. Charlotte was outstanding in providing excellent three course breakfasts and attending to your every detail, iincluding good recommentations on restaurants and activities. The B&B had a lovely ambience, with separate sitting room/library and enclosed porch with tables (useful for computers) and rocking chairs. The location was very good with a block or two walk to shops and restaurants.
As mentioned in other reviews, traffic noise is noticable (at least in front rooms) but not extreme (at least when I was there) - speed limit is 25 mph and Route 4 traffic was not extremely heavy. As I always sleep with earplugs, the noise was no problem at all. Traffic noise is a factor in virtually all B&Bs along the main road, and I have experienced worse noise in other places.
The rates seem reasonable for the area, and likely provide one of the best values in Woodstock. All in all, we were very happy with the choice we made.

We found the hospitality at the Ardmore Inn to be exceptional! The home was so warm and inviting. Upon arrival, Charolette, the owner surprised us with a birthday cake and champaigne to celebrate my birthday and our 35th anniversary. It was such a treat! Our room and bath were lovely. The breakfast was delicious! We enjoyed the company of several others from around the US. We actually met a couple from our homestate and exchanged contact information. It was nice to make new friends. We found the town of Woodstock to be quaint. It was a wonderful place for a stroll. A visit to Sugarbush Farm is a must. To cap off our time in Woodstock, we enjoyed a lovely dinner at Simon Pearce Restaurant. The only drawback to the whole experience was the street noise at night. There were earplugs available in each room, if you can stand to wear them. Much appreciation goes to Charolette for a lovely time.

My wife and I spent one night at the Ardmore Inn during the month of August 2010. The Inn is a beautiful ancient building right in the center of Woodstock with an easy free parking in the backyard. Breakfast is very good and shared with the rest of the people who are staying at the Inn which is a good idea! Charlotte makes wonderful cookies and lemonade served during the alternoon.
We stayed in the Kerrigan’s Room on the second floor. The room has a private bathroom with shower. Very clean.
Nice view but noisy street (Route 4): we had a hard time falling asleep because of the road traffic (trucks, motorcycles...) and also because at 3.00am they started cleaning the road. The owners of the Inn had left ear plugs for us by our bed (!!!) and apologized the next day for the noise. Maybe the other rooms are quieter but ours was definitely noisy. We did not sleep at all that night! Too bad.
Average.

Unfortunately, the outside of this old home is badly in need of wood replacement, sanding and painting. As we pulled in, we started mentally scrolling our options for another spot for the night. But, the inside is warm, fresh and welcoming. Our room was spotless, decorated in relaxing tones without a lot of clutter. Breakfast was wonderful. We had emailed ahead and got a great recommendation for dinner at the Prince and the Pauper, where we sat in the small bar area and had a cozy meal. One glitch: our room was on the street side and we were first concerned about traffic noise, which didn't bother us a bit. But, the room's air conditioner sounded like a washing machine as it cycles through, disturbing even to my husband who can sleep through just about anything! All in all, we'd stay here again for a visit to this lovely town.

Thank you kathryn43 of Louisville, KY for your honest evaluation of the exterior - one which we share and are in the process of having the exterior painted so, "shabby exterior" no more - and for your complimentary comments about the interior of the Ardmore Inn. We apologize that the A/C disturbed you slumber and wish you had mentioned the problem to us at the time, but it has been remedied. We are pleased that you enjoyed Charlotte's recommendation of the Prince and the Pauper for dinner and generally enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for stating that you would recommend the Ardmore Inn to a friend and we sincerely hope that you will stay with us again the next time you visit Woodstock, Vermont.
