We spent two nights at the Lauren Inn (7, 8 September) in one of the "nicer" two-room suites (#8). The Inn itself is in a wonderful location in Woodstock and the property is beautiful. This Inn has a great deal of potential but the staff and lack of attention to guests reduced the experience to purely marginal.
The Inn and our room was delightfully appointed. However the window air conditioner in our room was so noisey, that we could not sleep with the unit on (and we are used to NYC traffic noise) and the room became unbearably hot. After a fitfull night's sleep, we informed the staff the next morning at breakfast of the issue. After reminding the staff of the problem, the staff finally responded at 845pm, knocking on our door asking if they could fix the unit even though they had all day to fix the problem and we told them we were turning in early.
Check-inn - unfortunately, we arrived late on Friday night. Knowing this we called from the road and left a message (early evening) asking the Inn to call us and advise us as to where the keys would be for our room. We called an hour later and still did not reach anyone and left a second message. We called two more times as we were driving to VT with no answer and no return phone call. All worked out okay in the end but not a good start. We had a similar experience upon checking out. The staff member that was supposed to be working Sun morning was absent and we were unable to obtain our final bill upon check out - at 845 am after breakfast in the dining room.
The bright spot is the restaurant. We had a wonderful dinner with truly superb food and a nice wine list. The breakfasts were also excellent.
Overall, the Inn is not worth the price they charge given the other options in Woodstock where we have also stayed.
