This past weekend our dear friends Leigh and Rob Blood, who own and manage a wonderful B&B called the Captain Fairfield Inn (Kennebunkport, ME), took us to the restaurant at the Lauren Inn (Woodstock, VT). I love to try lamb dishes wherever I go, so I ordered the rack of lamb, cooked to the chef's recommendation of medium-rare. This was the best piece of lamb i have ever eaten. And the bordelais sauce was just perfect! (Although i wish the meat was local instead of Australian.)

The ambiance was wonderful - tables spaced very far apart, ensuring a private dining experience. The place has a traditional feel with a bit of modern flair. A nice wine list as well.

I think with a bit more time the service will get up to par with the level of restaurant that it is.

Maybe I am behind the times, but I have never before seen an establishment that charges a MANDATORY "gratuity" fee.

It is a whopping 15%.
On top of the 9% room tax.

Fine print, indeed.

I have stayed here 3 times and love it! It is like a home away from home. The breakfast is wonderful, the popcorn and wine in the afternoon is very relaxing. Menus to all local restaurants were available in the closet and extra blankets were in the hall. I will stay here each time I go to Woodstock!

We stayed at this place last summer. Our rooms were large and the breakfast food was good. The girls who served us breakfast were very nice.However, in the evening we arrived, at 8:00pm (short time after we checked in), we couldn't find the innkeeper to give us information for local dinning. At 9:30pm, we tried to get extra blanket for a chilly night. Again, no body was available. We won't be back to this place for sure.
