“A Porch Where Time Stands Still So Why Not Linger Forever?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012 via mobile

The Kedron Valley Inn succeeds in attracting both locals and visitors to its establishment as evidenced by the fact that we shared (inadvertantly) the porch dining area with the family from which we rented our renovated barn in South Woodstock.  There were two other sets of neighbors present and as many tourist families.  What is so magical as a quiet country road receding into the distance?  Right at a turn in the road, at the edge of a tiny village, is where you will find the Kedron Valley Inn that so graciously combines a casual atmosphere with locally procured produce, meat, and cheese, not to mention delicious VT after dinner drinks like ice cider wine and maple liqueur.  Our kids enjoyed their grilled pizza and a game of tag on the front lawn, while we savored a quiet summer's eve.  The service was knowledgable and timely.  Even the music was just right -- loungey cabaret and jazz standards.

“I really, really wanted to love this place!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

I'd heard a lot of things about this restaurant. In my experience, this area of Vermont is filled with great restaurants serving great local food. I really and truly wanted to love this place, but...

First - the good: The setting was lovely. We had a table on the porch on a cool summer evening. We had hummingbirds, chipmunks, etc. It was a BEAUTIFUL restaurant in a quiet country setting. EVERYONE there was INCREDIBLY sweet and kind. The staff was very caring and the service was fantastic.

Now - the mediocre: The food. Sadly, the food was really only okay. Mostly bland, not much pop. We ordered the house made potato chips. They were overdone, cold and had no seasoning whatsoever. I had the tofu stir fry. It was fresh, the veggies were nice, but there was no pop or outstanding flavor to the dish. My wife had the veggie burger. The burger was actually pretty good, but the bun seemed almost store bought. The fries were cold, not crisp, and unseasoned.

If this place were less expensive, I would recommend going for the ambiance alone which is REALLY great. Unfortunately, dinner for my family of four with a very modest bottle of wine was 120. That's a bit much for good ambiance IMHO.

“Great setting, mediocre food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

We and two friends ate at the Kedron Valley Inn recently. The setting on the porch was very pleasant and conducive to a leisurely dinner, with plenty of time to talk and little ambient noise. The food, however, left a good deal to be desired. The menu also is rather limited. i doubt if we will return.

“Take advantage of the beautiful weather and dine on the porch!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

Lovely porch seating, pretty flowers, good waitstaff. Nice variety on the menu, food was very good, but a bit pricey with smallish portions. Lille wrapped in phyllo for an appetizer very tasty but wanted more since we were sharing. A frisée and radicchio salad was a huge hit with my 13 year old. The salmon was excellent but was wanting company on the plate. But for relaxing in a lovely environment, with a nice dinner and good wine list, this is one of the best in the area.

“Very good food, excellent service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

We totally enjoyed our dinner at the Kendron last weekend. We ate inside in the pub area which was pleasant because we had some elderly folks with us, but the Kedron also offers al fresco dining on the porch which looked very lovely. Every single person who worked there was tremendously nice and helpful. The food was much better than we expected. It just needed to be good, but it was really very good! I enjoyed a splendid sole with lobster sauce reduction -- excellent. But even the simple hamburger another person had was very good. The salmon was done to a T. On another visit several months ago, my vegetarian daughter announced the vegetarian entree was the best she'd ever had. The chef can cook meat and vegetables very creatively, but not so much that it scares the 90-year olds. We will certainly visit the Kedron Inn restaurant again!
