This is a much, much delayed review, to echo all of the other glowing comments and to confirm that our own memorable stay was truly the norm at the Blue Horse Inn!
Our family booked 4 rooms here last June while attending my niece's graduation from Dartmouth. We couldn't find anything in or near Hanover, even one year in advance (so fair warning to all those who want to be in Hanover during Commencement season!), so we began looking further out. As luck would have it, we found The Blue Horse Inn, and our stay there as a family turned out to be THE highlight of our visit! Everyone in our group --my two sisters, my parents, and we ourselves just loved our rooms: Bright, spacious, elegant, comfortable, and no chintz in sight! (Picture a very stylish rendition of Pottery Barn in the very best spirit of New England!)
Keri and her staff could not have made us feel more welcomed and pampered: Each morning, they kindly set aside a large table for all of us, so that we could enjoy our time together as a family before we all scattered about to do our own things. Breakfast itself was served in beautiful china with crisp table linens, family-style, with delectable cooked-to-order pancakes stuffed with ricotta and lemon zest one day, shirred eggs with mascarpone the next, and a wondrous soufflee with caramelized onions still the next; coffee came to the table in small French presses, one each for 2 persons: This was truly personalized service! We had to leave for Hanover early one morning to get our seats for the Commencement ceremony, so Keri and the staff set aside yogurt, granola, fresh fruits, and coffee for us way before their breakfast offerings: Thank you!
The grounds between the Inn and the river are beautifully kept. BTW, one can have breakfast on the porch too (weather permitting, presumably), with a lovely view of the grounds and the river.
Other extra sweet touches: fresh-baked cookies, local (& excellent) cheeses and crackers, and cool mint-lemonade in the afternoon.
And a very, very special offering: A music festival during our visit, with piano recitals by the superb Tanya Gabrielian and colleagues.
Compared to the many Inns and B&B in New England where we have stayed over the years (Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont), the Blue Horse Inn gives us the very best of everything, providing us with a generous offering of culture, comfort, and pampering services! Many, many thanks to Keri and her lovely staff, for creating and hosting this most welcoming haven!
