We were very disappointed with our recent stay at the Woodstock Inn. We felt the room was ridiculously overpriced (as was most of everything in the hotel). We stayed 2 nights (Thursday and Friday). We arrived around lunchtime on Thursday and decided to go to the hotel dining area for the buffet. What a joke. At $16.95 per person the buffet consisted of processed cheddar cheese slices, bread slices and deli meats and overcooked, mushy pasta. On top of this ridiculously overpriced buffet we were automatically charged $7.95 (Auto Service Charge - which essentially is the tip for the non-existent waitress). Brutal. The hotel room was small and the bathroom was even smaller. The second night we stayed was the worst. A group function checked in that was primarily families with small children. I was horrified. Just as I put on my jammies and pulled up the chair to the fireplace to begin reading my book the pounding and thudding from the room above us started. This incessant noise went on for 30 minutes before I had to phone the front desk who informed me a family with 3 young children were in the room above us. The front desk said they would take care of the problem. The noise stopped - briefly. We decided to go out for dinner and come back to the room after the kids had gone to bed. Of course at 7:00am the next morning the pounding and thudding started all over again and then kids screaming and yelling could be heard from outside our hotel window (where the putting green is located).

Don't waste your money on this overpriced hotel. The service is lousy and the rooms aren't worth the price. You're paying for the experience of staying in Woodstock, Vermont which really is a quaint little town.

We will not be returning to the Woodstock Inn.

We stayed at this hotel for only one night as part of a trip through New England and Quebec. Our renovated room was the highlight of the hotel. Although it was a little narrow, the dark wood furniture was very attractive, comfortable, and the overall impression of the room was that it was more like a room in a nice home rather than a standard high end hotel room The bathroom was small but the white subway tiles and elegant fixtures more then made up for it. The hallways near this room were also renovated with the exception of the doors into the rooms which are clearly holdovers. It looks like only one wing of the hotel has been renovated.

The rest of the hotel is nice but a little drab and worn. There are at least three rooms for dining, a nice sundry shop, and a library with free morning coffee and a computer available for guests to use. A bathroom I used in a public area of the hotel was sterile and unattractive, and clearly has not been touched in 30 years. The grounds of the hotel are very nice, and the exterior of the hotel is very attractive.

We did not eat a meal in the hotel, choosing Bentley’s for dinner with its great dark Victorian parlor décor, and breakfast at Mountain Creamery. Both are a five minute walk from the hotel.

I had a chance for an afternoon swim in the hotel pool which was a little cool in early September, but it is a good sized pool in a nice setting. The health club, about a mile and a half down the road is very nice with a great looking indoor pool, good workout area plus a lot more to offer.

Overall, the Woodstock Inn is a nice hotel but right now it is a tale of two hotels. If you stay in a renovated room its like staying in a 5 star room located inside a 3 star hotel.

Stayed for one night in august.Great location in an extremely pretty town.Would have liked to have stayed longer.Very helpful staff who showed us two rooms to choose from-no rush,no fuss.Incredibly helpful concierge Sarah Beth who made arrangements for our whale watch 5 days after our stay at the inn.Lovely service, lovely staff, lovely town,lovely stay! Couldn't fault it.

Just had a wonderful four nite stay at the Inn. We make it our annual pilgrimage and have stayed during every season. The room renovations were excellent. Bill the Bell Captain is a fixture and with his personal/professional attention makes a guest feel special, from desk check in was excellent and since we were celebrating a wedding anniversary we had some special items included. They called us from the front desk to make sure our check in and room were satisfactory, a nice touch. The food was very good and we tried each venue in the Inn, from the restaurant, to the tavern (too many children in the early evening hours-this needs tweaking-I love children, have my own, but need a quiet moment with my wife), to the main dining room. Yes hiring employees is a problem in many Vermont towns, they draw from an entire, shire or county area with 4000 folks, many of our small towns and boroughs have many more residents, hence the shortage of help. The inn was clean as usual, and with their planned future improvements the grand old institution will achieve and maintain a top rating. Nice thing about America we can all have our opinion's and express them freely. Nice job Woodstock!
