We stayed two nights in this hotel last weekend.
The hotel and grounds are as expected really nice. It is build in the style of a roman palace.
We booked stay with breakfast and dinner and also had a spa treatment.
Pro's /cons room:
The room we stayed in had a really nice view overlooking the golf course straight to the sea.
Very confortable bed
Decent size room
Decent size bathroom
I couldn't believe the noise level in the room, there was a connecting room to the room next door which strangely enough only consisted of a single door, whilst in all good hotels I stayed in had double doors with good insulation.
It was as if you were in the same room with your neighbours. I could hear literally what they were saying, word for word. Unfortunately they had some small children , so all the crying and nagging that went on I was able to "enjoy" as well.
On top of this I was treated to the man in the room snoring all night!
Obviously this is not the fault of the people staying next door but due to the very poor insulation between rooms !
Same in hallways, twice everybody in the hotel must have been woken up because of some very noisy/drunk Russians going to their room in the middle of the night.
Bathroom: Very poor lighting , specially for ladies who want to put on their make up. Although there is a make up mirror, the lighting in the bathroom is insufficient.
Shower: Totally wrong designed: You can't go in the shower to put it on the right temperature without getting soaked or worse burnt if you don't get the temperature right the first time. There is no hand shower(!) just a big overhead shower.
We used half of the shower gel after the first day , you would expect that after cleaning the next day the cleaner would put new shower gel and fresh soaps (normal thing to do in a 5 star hotel) that were also used but she didn't.
Dinner was good, friendly staff although seemed a bit understaffed
Breakfast was absolutely one of the worse breakfast I have had in a decent hotel !
Nobody to greet you upon arrival, after standing around for a few minutes we went to look for a table ourselves.
There was very little choice. A few things spread out here and there, some fresh fruit ,some yoghurts and cereal , some scrambled eggs in a container , some bacon and that was it.
There wasn't even a toaster to toast your bread ! No butter/margarine anywhere, I had to ask for it and the waiter had to go to the kitchen to get me one little pack of butter.
I did ask for a boiled egg, the waiter did order and brought me . No salt anywhere, had to ask again for it. Not exactly a 5 star service /quality breakfast.
There was no light on in the main area, very dark as if they were trying to save money on lights.
This was the same the two days we had breakfast there, no butter, no salt , no lights. Just one waiter who seemed like he couldn't handle everything.
Very disappointing and so easy to solve. Needs much more choice and better quality products up to standard for a 5 star hotel. Also it would be nice if the waiter could explain if there are any more choices that possibly can be ordered.
Pro's: really nice treatment and a nice lady(Vicky) who did the treatment.
Contra's: They booked the wrong treatment so i had to wait 10 minutes so the lady could prepare another room
After the treatment it took them three times to get the bill right !
Conclusion: In my opinion not worth the money.I live in Marbella and just wanted a small "luxurious" break. If you are looking to stay in a 5 star hotel with 5 star service , no noise in the rooms and a nice breakfast I would definitely stay elsewhere next time.
