“Classic Spanish hideaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

Went to Las Nuevas in 2011 and 2012, although not this year, alas, but a bout of nostalgia took me back to their site and then to Tripadvisor and I thought as I'm here I might as well add to the glowing reviews already posted. I don't have too much to add, just a few pictures for anyone considering going. It's a classic place, a hideaway in the hills far from the bright lights and cheap frills of the costas and all the better for that. Kids love it, adults love it, the pool is just right, the apartments fantastic, the food excelent and the whole place is almost too good to be true. The people who stay there all seem to be fairly like-minded so there's a nice friendly ambience as well. Really can't fault it in any way, and how many places can you say that about?

We recently stayed in Casa Maria with our friends and our toddlers (4 adults and 4 children under 4). The house was lovely and well equipped, with lots to keep the children amused and a large terrace area out the front to keep them safely contained. The setting is beautiful and instantly calming and nowhere is this more acutely felt than down by the wonderful pool. However, perhaps the most unique and memorable part of the experience was Mark and Jane's remarkable hospitality. The are a friendly and interesting couple who went out of their way to help, without ever getting in our way. Special mentions have to go to Jane's cooking and Mark's maps. Whole heartily recommend Las Nuevas for groups with small children and for those looking for somewhere quiet and relaxing.

Room Tip: Casa Maria was perfect for 2 families.

It's not always easy holidaying with small children. You can fly away from grey skies and work woes but tantrums and sleepless nights come along too, like naughty stowaways. And, with familiar routines out the window, demanding toddlers can become even more tyrannical. Not so at Las Nuevas! As soon as we walked through the gates, the children (four under 4's between two families) were happily occupied, pottering around the shady courtyard, discovering the many toys left out for them and beginning what was to become a beautiful friendship with Gypsy (the most tolerant dog alive).

Las Nuevas provides a genuinely child friendly holiday. The perfectly sized toddler section of the pool, the abundant shade, plentiful highchairs, cots, kiddies cutlery, books, toys; truly everything you could need. Perhaps more importantly, Jane and Mark are genuinely child friendly people, in fact the kids seemed to prefer their company to ours by the end of our stay! The shady outside courtyard was fully secured so we could relax around the house, lounge on the daybed and eat long lunches admiring the fabulous mountain views without needing to constantly headcount children.

There are some excellent day trips within easy driving distance; the awesome El Chorro gorge and silky azure waters of the lakes above it, as well as the coast and the underrated and vibrant city of Malaga, all within an hour. That said, you could easily spend the whole week doing very little around Las Nuevas- it is very easy to totally relax here, even with small children in tow.

The well equipped, spacious kitchen of our Casa made it easy for us to make our own meals (getting through a staggering quantity of olive oil, pressed from olives handpicked from Las Nuevas by Jane) but it was a massive bonus to be able to forget about cooking (and washing up) a couple of times in our stay when we were cooked for by Jane. Jane is an exceptional cook and her Moroccan feast is unmissable. Sitting outside on a balmy evening, children tucked up in bed, glass of wine in hand, time to enjoy each other's company and a superb meal to enjoy. Heaven.

Las Nuevas has been perfectly laid out, with beautiful views of the mountains from many different vistas, the pool is gorgeous and the sunsets amongst the best we've ever seen. The casas are simple in the best possible sense; spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated and very comfortable.

This is a great place to come with two or more families as there is lots of outdoor space and with the children so well entertained, plenty of time for adults to catch up too.

It's a rare thing to stay somewhere and feel that you have received genuine hospitality so we feel truly grateful to have found Las Nuevas and been hosted with such generosity by Jane and Mark. We are already pining for Las Nuevas and dreaming of our return.

We stayed at Las Nuevas for a week at the end of May. The setting is stunning (high above a massive valley with the sun conveniently setting at the end of it), the accommodation great (a lot bigger than we expected and full of areas / toys for our our daughter to play with), facilities superb (lovely swimming pool, terrace and communal courtyard) and Mark and Jane really made us feel welcome. It's a cliché to say they made us feel part of the family, but on the final night they did actually invite us to share what can only be described as a Spanish feast with members of their family who were visiting!

In particular I recommend asking Jane to cook a meal for you one night. Her fish tagine (and approx 8 other dishes!) blew the socks off the meal we had at (supposedly) the best north African restaurant in Andalucia.

One thing to bear in mind. Although this is very accessible from Malaga (30mins) and all the beaches of the Costa Del Sol, the location is pretty remote. If you are wanting to 'party' or eat out every night, this is not the place for you. But if you want to relax, read, do day trips, play with your kids, 'retreat' to write, cook or just chill out then this is definitely for you. And give Pablo and Gypsy a stroke from Isla (our daughter).

Room Tip: Tell Jane and Mark what you want and they can advise. We stayed at Casa Maria which was definitely t...

We stayed in Las Nuevas last month for 9 days with our 2 young toddlers. We had chosen this accommodation as it caters for families with young ones and we weren't disappointed! Mark and Jane are fantastic hosts and have made a haven in the hills. The house is amazing, with unbelievable views cross the hills above Malaga. We stayed in casa maria which i believe was the best house! you have your own private veranda with hammock which is great to cosy up on to watch the stunning sunsets:)
There is everything that you need to keep your little ones entertained including toys, books, bikes and an amazing swimming pool. Our children had loads of fun especially once Jane and Marks grandchildren arrived to stay!
Though the accommodation is self catering( and the kitchen facilities are great) Jane offers to cook for special occasions. I cannot describe how wonderful the meals were. We were very lucky to have a few meals cooked for us and the highlight was definitely the Moroccan Tagine and the chocolate and apricot tart. To be able to have a romantic meal for 2 whilst the kids were asleep just made our holiday.
We would highly recommend Las Nuevas for anyone looking for a relaxing and low key family holiday and plan to return again next year.

We stayed at Las Nuevas in July with friends who had stayed before and who recommended that we give it a try.

This was not our usual family holiday - no shopping Malls, no roller coasters, and no hunting for a half decent restaurant in the evening. The first thing we should say is that the photographs do not do justice to the beautiful location and panoramic views.

There are four different "Casas" available - we stayed in the four bedroom house which had bags of room , was spotlessly clean and felt like a home from home. Particular attention has been paid to the bedrooms, with very comfortable beds, quality bedding, and the really good pillows - one of my biggest gripes normally.

The rest of the accommodation has everything you need for a self-catering holiday, and it is advisable to stock up with a few days provisions at a time from the excellent "Mercadona" supermarket in the village at the foot of the mountains. It is 8 Km down a tight and steep road so not something you would want to do every day. The Pool is lovely and there are plenty of comfortable loungers available.

Otherwise, just enjoy and relax - there are plenty of places to visit within an hour or so's drive - we visited the Lakes which, were wonderful, and there a number of other opportunities to find parts of Spain you may not have visited before. And you are only 40 minutes from Malaga and the coastal strip.

Your hosts, Mark and Jane, will make you feel more than welcome and will always be available to advise about the local area, or just simply to chat if you want to. They built and developed this property from a derelict farmhouse and are very knowledgeable about this part of Spain.

We did very little for 10 days, and loved it. A really special place.

This is a hidden gem in the hills, Jane and Mark are the most fantastic hosts and they have built this beautiful place virtually from scratch. If you want a relaxing getaway this is the only place to be, practically perfet in everyway!
