Owner description: Dear Visitors to Bran Castle,On June 1, 2009, we celebrated the return of the heirs of Princess Ileana with Bran Castle’s rebirth as the first private museum and premiere tourist destination of Romania.June 1st Is the International Day of Children and Bran Castle’s day of revival.Fittingly, we have chosen to celebrate the day with special events for children, so that we may all remain fresh and young at heart.During the past year we have completed refurbishing the Castle, recapturing the spirit of Queen Marie’s favorite retreat and the loved home of her descendents. We have installed easy to read informational plaques and a media room for our visitors. We are currently restoring the park, as well as renovating all the facilities. We are also preparing additional cultural events and entertainment for our visitors.Following the Castle’s change of ownership, director Narcis Ion remained with the Ministry of Culture, but has continued to be our valued advisor. We have welcomed a new group of managing directors: Lia Doru Trandafir, Corin Trandafir, and Alexandru Priscu. We are happy to receive every guest that comes to visit us.Welcome to our castle, our home.Sincerely,Dominic HabsburgMaria-Magdalena HolzhausenElisabeth Sandhofer

“A very well preserved castle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

Bran Castle is perfectly preserved, so that you can visit many of its interior rooms. The rooms contain furniture from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries mainly, and some curiosities as shields and armors or a original pendant from costumes for the film Bram Stoker's Dracula.
General ticket costs 25 RON (20 for students).
There are so many people, so we advise to go early in the morning.

“Forget vampires, the real story is Queen Maria of Romania”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

Bran Castle, a picturesquely-situated fortress dating from medieval times, came into the possession of the Romanian royal family, and was extensively re-modelled as a summer residence during the 1920s by Queen Maria, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria and, by all accounts, an independently-minded and interesting woman. Now it's a castle straight out of a Walt Disney film, all pointed turrets and charming galleries and arcades, and even a secret staircase concealed within the thickness of one wall. Although the owners have had to furnish the rooms mainly with items similar to, or reminiscent of, Queen Maria's furnishings, I felt her personality was apparent - helped by the multi-lingual information panels. The links with Bram Stoker's Dracula and with Vlad the Impaler are tenuous, but again they are well explained. The minus point is the crowding (certainly during the summer months) and people posing for photos in front of everything (get over it, folks!) There is an audio-guide, but at some points it might have been difficult to stand and listen to it.

“More interesting than expected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

We got there early as a group and had our 'own' guide. I suggest to get there early as the queue later was horrendous.
The guide was extremely knowledgeable and very amusing. The castle isn't JUST about Vlad the Impaler and of course Count Dracula, the history of the place is very interesting, for example I didn't know that Romania once had an English Queen! Of course it IS a tourist hot spot, number one in Romania I believe, so there are loads of gift shops selling the usual 'souvenirs'. Having said that it's definitely fun to browse and pick up a few bits. Try (the Hungarian origin) tubular 'cake', can't recall the name but it's delicious, especially when still warm! Pick up a bottle of home made 'Palinka' too :)

“Is it worth waiting in the hot sun to go inside Bran Castle?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

Of our group of 5 family members parents and kids ages 14 - 23, 3 were very bored and disappointed at the castle. Perhaps this is because we visited Peles Castle before the Bran Castle.

The 2 that enjoyed Bran Castle loved how it looked inside and enjoyed reading about the history of the castle and learning about how the Romanians' view the real Dracula - Vlad the Impaler.
I think younger kids would enjoy running around a furnished castle.

As one of those who enjoyed the castle, I don't feel that had we passed this one up we would have really regretted it. If you are pressed for time - you have permission to skip this one.

We weren't able to arrive early in the morning before the crowds, so we waited in the very hot sun for about 1/2 an hour. When we left the castle at 4:00 PM the line was much shorter.

Notes -
1, The line begins in the middle of the market shops - so head straight to the line and then take turns checking out the shops.
2. There are free toilets after you buy your tickets and walk up to the castle, but if you ask anyone by the ticket booth they will tell you there aren't bathrooms and direct you to the pay toilets in the market area.
3. You can take still photos (not video) for free in this castle!

“Looks good in a photo!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

Visited the castle on August 11. Pricey and overcrowded. It fact there were so many people crammed into narrow corridors if there had been a fire or an accident there would have been grave consecquences. Impossible to see or hear anything, hundreds of tourists pushing and shoving to get the best photos, they even photographed door knobs.
Outside it is full of junk stalls everywhere. I would not reccommend this visit to anyone.
