“Incredible”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

It is a breathtaking experience to visit the Berlengas. Lots and lots of walking and hiking though. Make sure you take the boat excursions as these take you to the back of the islands and small caves. A must excursion if you visit Peniche!!!

“Offshore excursion”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

Nice few hours in a fast boat ride to the Berlengas. As this was off-season one ahd to bring own water and snacks. Movement is very restricted due to the sensitive nature, so this excursion is mainly for those enjoying scenery and going to a special place.

“Nice Islands, stunning colours, busy and crowded”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

We took a trip to the Berlengas during a week staying at Peniche. We looked at weather surf and wind forecast and booked on the day. We chose a smaller boat 28 people.

The crossing of an hour can be rough. We were lucky and it was pretty calm.

The Islands are stunning and the colours of the sea an incredible turquoise. As you get off the boat there is a small cafe and a slightly larger restaurant. The food outside is cheaper than inside! Bizarre as it is lovely outside on the terrace looking at the stunning views. Sandwiches 2-3 euros and nice.

We then walked across the island to the fort to get a glass bottomed boat 'through caves' We hadnt been told it was a steep 283 steps down - not for people with fear of heights. Worth the trek though, crystal clear waters and lots of fish.

We then all crowded into our boat and went through one tunnel and into a cave entrance. The water was crystal clear . The trip takes ten mins and thankfully delivers you back to the cafe rather than at the bottom of a 283 long climb.

After that there is a crowded and tiny beach.

You can also hire kayaks which would be lovely if you have time.

Overall we had a nice day. It is worth 18 euros for the trip and the extra 4 euros for the glass bottomed boat.

I dont think you would do it more than once unless you planned to kayak . It may be less busy if not in August.
