“Small, cosy - a little remote”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2011

PINHALmar is located a small drive outside Peniche center close to the ocean. The hotel is not large but cosy and the rooms are smal. The pool and pool-area was nice. All are well-kept. The receptionist gave good service.
The breakfast was a bit below satisfactory due to having to fight for the food with an army of small ants.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the ocean.

We arrived straight from Lisbon airport to finally be able to relax in this delightful hotel set near the cliff road overlooking the Atlantic with the lighthouse nearby, just outside the old town of Peniche. Had a small double back room overlooking pinewoods, pleasant and cheaper than ocean view front. Good bathroom, all you could want in breakfast buffet. Great to be able to park car securely and local seafood restaurants were fun to eat in. A great spot to take car trips around West Portugal and be able to return to relax in evening. For surfing fanatics this would be a good spot to be in too! Staff very helpful and friendly, we would definately return here again.

We flew into Lisbon from the US and drove north to Peniche after a stop in Obidos (on the way). Our first hotel of the trip was at Hotel PINHALmar - a good first evening hotel.
The hotel locationis easy to find and well marked by signs on the road once you are in Peniche.

The property is perched across the road on the cliffs overlooking the atlantic ocean, close to the lighthouse. The hotel and grounds are clean and very well kept. The reception was very helpful during check-in, check-out, restaurant recommendations, and internet acess.

The rooms are spacious (for Europe), spotless, and equipped with all the necessities. Bed was comfortable and clean.

Breakfast was good, selection was good, and service was good.

This hotel is an excellent stay at a very competitive price. The only drawback was that the walls were thin: we were awakened twice in the middle of the night to the sounds of someone snoring. Bring some earplugs and your problems are solved.

If there are trips you could recomend, Portual is definatly one. After arriving to Lisbon and some city site see, we traveled north. Hotel Pinhalmar was our first stop, and the greatest as well.Clean, acomodating, nice staff and the for last the restaurant, I can not describe the dinner we had, it was simply fantastic, my wife and I tasted the best and most fresh fish in all our life.
I will definatly return with my family for some Sun and Beach vacation.
Congratulations to all the staff and especially the cook.

If you want a hotel in Peniche (as opposed to one of the cheap and cheerful residencials in the old town), you basically have the choice of being close to the big sandy beach on the way into town, where there are two hotels sitting rather forlornly in a dusty tract of land between two busy roads, or the PinhalMar, which is even further out of town, but at least has a sort of ocean view over the top of a line of craggy cliffs, guarded by the town's not very photogenic lighthouse, at Cape Carvoeiro.

The hotel is quite new and has been built in a slightly odd, quasi-art deco style, with a squat glass dome on top. Inside, however, it's reasonably spacious; the rooms are clean, light and airy, with balconies where you can watch the sun go down over the wild Atlantic (Peniche is Portugal's prime surfing resort). It does have a small swimming pool, in the corner of the grounds, where there may be some respite from the persistent wind (a safer bet than venturing into the Atlantic rollers, I would think).

The one thing which lets this place down is the breakfast buffet, which is not exactly inspired, which is a shame, as in all other respects, this is a thoroughly recommendable place to stay. It's just a bit too far to walk back into the town, at least in the evening, to find a place to eat (there's nothing nearby at all), so you will probably have to resort to driving.

Peniche is almost picturesque, in parts, but the several fish-related commercial premises do rather impinge on to what might have once been an atmospheric working harbour. The place does begin to grow on you, though, and if you're on a touring holiday, I'd recommend a couple of nights here, just to give yourself a chance to relax and let it work its subtle spell. The absurdly pretty Obidos is only 20-odd kilometres away (but I'm not sure that in the end I didn't prefer the more workaday appeal of Peniche).

We booked one of the cheaper doubles and naturally were given a smallish room. Aside from that everything here was top notch - from breakfast to bathroom. The modern hotel stands on the far (west) side of Peniche on a lonely stretch of rocky coast, so if you're after nature and serenity, this is your spot..

Well, this hotel should be visited just for this... I wasn't aware of this before reading a sign along the road to Peniche. Effectively, the hotel isn't in the town you have to pass it and go further to west where the road ends. There's just a lighthouse over the hotel, and then the ocean. Hotel is new and there were very few people. Rooms are spacious with all the necessary except the fridge. Staff is "new" too but can help if you need. Breakfast is satisfying, there are tasty juices, sweets, hams, breads, eggs, etc. Without car is difficult to stay there 'cause the town is about 3kms away.
