“Worth a Return Trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

This was our second time here and even though we had a reservation, we were told there weren't any table available when we arrived. After speaking to the manager, we had to wait a few more minutes and were shown into a separate room that only had two other diners. After that, things were fine and the service was great. Food is wonderful, extensive wine list with all price ranges. We would come back again.

“Elegant dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

Extensive Italian and Portuguese cuisine. Very nice atmosphere with excellent wait staff. They have a good wine selection along with a well stocked bar. A bit pricey but worth every penny.

“A Serene Refuge from Urbanization”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012 via mobile

After visiting the site of the Civil War battles of Manasses (Bull Run), going to the city of Manasses VA south of Rte 66 requires slogging through one mall after the other. Eventually you reach the now burgeoning city. With a good map you'll find the historic district and step back into the 19th Century, thankfully a sanitized version of course. Near the still active historic train station, which doubles as a visitor center, you'll find the lovely Portuguese-Italian restaurant, Carmello's. This is where to go for meat, but we vegetarians also found excellent fish and cheese dishes prepared by knowledgable hands. Fabulous wait staff. It's worth a special trip.

Old Town has a lot of great restaurants, but Carmello's rises to the top. Great service and fantastic dishes will give you a meal to remember.

“Varied menu, great service and food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

Our group of 12 dined on a Saturday evening with a reservation. We were all pleased with the food and service. I was concerned after reading either glowing or scathing reviews, but was pleasantly surprised when everything went so well. I can't think of anything negative, which doesn't happen to me very often!! It is expensive to dine at Carmello's, but I knew that before visiting the restaurant.

The servers all did an excellent job, the menu was varied with something for everyone, and the food was great! I had an artichoke salad, salmon with spinach and white beans, and a frozen dessert (I believe it was called "Mount Vesuvius"). The house red wine was also very good.

Among the others in our party, several had Ravioli Bolognese which I sampled; everyone enjoyed it. Two had the Arroz De Marisco, which looked wonderful, with a lot of seafood in the dish. And the Osso Buco looked delicious as well.

I would definitely recommend it to friends and look forward to visiting again in the future. They have a sister restaurant Monza, which is less formal, with pizza and pasta. It's attached to Carmello's and shares the same kitchen. I would like to try that as well.
