Due to hurricane Irene we could not spend the planned days at the coast and went inland to get out of the way. We happened to reserve a room at the Hampton Inn in Manassas, and we are glad we did. After driving a long day in the rain from the storm, the friendly welcome at the hotel was so nice. The ladies at the front desk made us feel like important guests and they made sure to tell us to come back down for their fresh cookies at five and eight o'clock. The room was very clean and well furnished, sitting down in the reading chair and putting my legs up on the ottoman felt good after the long drive. The bathroom was also very clean and had everything one could need. I love the good selection of very soft towels. The water pressure in the shower was also better than usual. Since it was raining cats and dogs and we didn't feel like driving, it was easy to just walk across the parking lot to the TGI Fridays next door for dinner, but there are several other places near by. The hotel even offers a discount for some of them. We decided to stay another day and enjoyed that the hotel is very close to lots of shopping malls etc. Breakfast was very good, fresh fruit, new hot items every day and a waffle maker. Having fresh strawberries on a fresh waffle with a nice omelet on the side was a good way to start the day, specially since it is included in the room rate. The choice here seemed better than what we have seen in some of the other Hampton Inns. We love that the Hampton Inns have what they call robust coffee, to a European that coffee tastes better than the average tasteless American coffee, and it is nice that it is available all the time. Free internet connection worked well all the time. At first we thought the room didn't have a fridge, but it was just in the cabinet under the TV. No microwave in the room, but one downstairs
