“The hotel is a little tired, but staff very accommodating”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

This hotel definitely has a retro vibe going on. The outside is very much a 60/70's facade. The inside has a few modern touches but not much. The standard rooms are just that and small with little storage space. The small bathroom ends up becoming a wet room as the shower cubicle is small. The heater in the room did well to warm the room, but you do end up with a lot of condensation on the windows if you leave it on overnight. Wireless Internet was intermittent at times albeit free.

Food was quite average in the evening, breakfast was good with a nice selection of both English and continental. Nice having free coffee and tea on tap in reception.

The hotel is convenient for the nearby town and a great location for any arctic activities you want to
do. We had 4 days with Arctic wildlife which was very good and thoroughly enjoyable. I would recommend them.

I'd be hard pushed to recommend this hotel, especially knowing that a Radisson Blu is being built, not sure of the time frame. If you're out and about you don't spend much time in the hotel, so it is fine for just sleeping.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a deluxe room or choose a room that is not facing the main road: snow ploughs are very no...

Stayed here over New Year and loved it! Modern Scandinavian hotel with clean line interior.
We were lucky and had a large room at the back so the snow plough didn't disturb us early morning. Staff were so helpful and friendly, it was a pleasure to get back after a busy day exploring!
Breakfast was plentiful and an excellent selection. We also ate in the restaurant on two occasions and each time was very good. Local produce well prepared and again, served with a smile. We had a birthday in our party and they made a special cake for him! A nice touch!
Certainly would stay there again if in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back in the winter to avoid the snowplough in the morning. Top floor is good...

We stayed there on an excellent trip to see Northern lights and Arctic wildlife. The hotel is modern and clean, with helpful service. The public rooms have some real interest, partly because of connections with local writers and artists, and there are works by local artists throughout the building. Wireless internet is free, as are tea and (instant) coffee. On the downside, the rooms are quite small with no storage space for clothes; plan to live out of a suitcase. The shower room/toilet is also small, and you can easily soak the entire floor from a single shower. Food is OK, but no more; there is better to be had elsewhere in town.

Basically, if you want to be in the Sortland area for other reasons - and we do recommend it - this is a perfectly decent place to stay. But you wouldn't come here for the hotel itself.

Stayed for two nights on a business trip. Staff is wonderful and really make you feel like home. I would guess the hotel is built in the 60's, the hallways are pretty much untouched but well maintained, nice for those of us who are nostalgics. Their website says all the rooms were redecorated in 2010 which seems to be true. Room is pretty spacious and nicely furnished, but lighting could be better. Bathroom was OK with plenty of space for your toiletries and a tub which needed cleaning. Traffic outside can easily be hard through the windows, but the city is practically dead after 20:00 so no problems sleeping in a bed which by the way was very comfy. TV is of the extremely cheap type with a dreadful picture and a remote that was so worn it was totally useless.

Too bad they didn't count in the cold winter when they redecorated. The tiny 600W heater in my room did it's very best to compensate for the cold coming through the poorly insulated wall and old windows, but barely got the temperature above 20 °C despite an outside temperature of around only -4°C. Wonder what it's like when it's -20?

I didn't try the restaurant, but the locals recommend it. The Retro Bar is open 4 nights a week only. Breakfast spread was a bit limited, but very well presented. Coffee was good. Local newspapers only, until about 08:00 when the national papers arrive (and you've probably went off for work if you're on a business trip). You have to bring your paper from the lobby if you want one.

They're building a new hotel in the city, if you plan to stay in Sortland in winter i suggest staying there, or bring warm clothing if you must stay at Sortland Hotell.

I stayed as part of a Nordic Experience/ Discover Arctic Wildlife + Northern lights trip. The rooms are clean + servicable altho there is little storage space as it's mainly aimed at Travellers who wouldn't unpack.the shower room was a wet room effectively so not that convenient to use toilet/basin after a shower. We had a set menu + they catered for all diets well. Conveniently placed for various activities + attractions. Can be a little noisy from the road, and windows weren't that heavily glazed but I would def go to this hotel again

Nobody could call this exotic. It is a very serviceable hotel in a serviceable location in a fairly mundane town. The town is promoted as the 'Blue Town' but much of the blue is faded and much is in different shades of blue and flaking. The hotel rooms are spacious.and adequately equipped. The breakfast is a typical business hotel breakfast and more than adequate. There is an on-site restaurant for dinner that we did not sample. There is little choice in Sortland but we would recommend this hotel.
