“Good budget hotel with a few excusable flaws”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2014

The good: The hotel staff were friendly, the room was spacious and perfectly acceptable, room service was excellent and we very much enjoyed the perks of all-inclusive. The hotel is located very near a bus terminal where tour and regular buses depart often to take you all over Malta. The indoor pool and jacuzzi in the basement is great and general spa facilities very nice. There's three pools in all to choose from. We also enjoyed the roof terrace bar - the burger bar next to it was great. We knew the hotel was quite cheap so our expectations were not too high which I think proved the right attitude for the following reasons below.

However, this the bad; the food was at best mediocre most nights. All very safe cuisine (spag bol / roast beef / fish / tomato sauce pasta etc) but not much better than the value brands of supermarkets. It's a buffet service and a couple of times, our food was rather cool when we'd brought it back to our table (usually breakfast). It's a shame because Malta is supposed to be known for good food. The hotel generally is fine but it does need a bit of refurbishment here and there. The evening entertainment was good some nights (in particular, the Latin dancers, winners for Malta were fantastic) but there was a couple of quite bad acts too. It seemed as though the poor acts had been brought in at the last moment and weren't very used to performing for an audience. We also asked for a wake up call TWICE and both times they took our request at reception and we received no call in the morning which was rather irritating.

All in all, we did enjoy our stay and the hotel was perfectly agreeable for most parts (mainly because we are not too bothered by food or mediocre entertainment). Most of the guests were elderly English Northerners which meant they were all extremely friendly! Especially as we are a 20-something couple!

Basically, if you're looking for a nice, budget break then The Soreda is a good stay.

We went for one week all inclusive in September. The food was very good and the staff helpful and friendly.
Our room was very overlooked so you could not open the curtains and you had to keep the lights on when in your room.
The rooftop was where the pool, bar & snacks were; snacks very good, chips, burgers etc.
Wi Fi is in a room just round the corner from the main entrance.
We would recommend this hotel; we found it to be excellent value for money.
Within waking distance of the town, approx. 15mins & 10mins from the Elvis bar; a must if you have not been before.

We have just returned from our second trip to Soreda for a 3 week break.
Once again we had a fantastic holiday.
The staff at Soreda are so welcoming and friendly they put you at ease from the moment you arrive.
The location of our room was perfect for access to all amenities.
we hope to return again next year.
Couple from Ireland.

Room Tip: A room at the back if you like a quiet room.

We went for one week all inclusive in April. The food was nice and the staff helpful and friendly but I found the hotel very dark with very little natural light. Our room was very overlooked so you could not open the curtains and you had to keep the lights on when in your room. The rooftop area was very nice and plenty of space and sunbeds.

Room Tip: Try and get a room at the front of the hotel as we were in 206 and it was very overlooked.

We went for 10 days in April 2014 and had a 2 bedroom apartment at the front of the hotel on the 1st floor. The room was spacious but one of thE bedrooms was very noisy due to ventilation shaft and fan noise. When we complained there was no alternative available, so we put the cases against the window and tried to block the sound.

We were all inclusive and found the food to be excellent, well cooked and enough choice that we could always find something to eat. The drinks choice was a bit limited, ie no cocktails but beer & wine were fine supplemented by local spirits.

Entertainment was aimed at the elderly and was pretty bad in our view. We went out most nights for either a long walk or to one of the bars in town. I would say this was not really suitable for young families as no entertainment aimed at kids, very few toilets in public areas, and not enough space in the public areas. Pool & gym were very good

Me and my boyfriend spend 5 nights at the Soreda Hotel in April on a all inclusive basis. The hotel is in a good location to get to Buggiba- just a 10/15 min walk to the main areas, and just a couple of minutes walk to St Pauls Bay. It's a nice quiet area however on the last couple of days we had a group of Belgian school children running around the hotel until 3 in the morning , slamming doors and not really understanding queuing in the dinner room. Which brings me onto the food. It was decent food and a wide selection each day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was always a soup and plenty of starters to choose from, and four or five mains to choose from. The deserts were a bit disappointing- always the same cream cakes, or an apple or orange, but all in all not bad! The entertainment during dinner was quite nice- it wasn't too loud or distracting, and the evening entertainment in the bar was a bit hit and miss- geared towards the older residents.
The hotel itself looked like it has had some areas refurbished- like the dining room and other areas are lagging behind and in desperate need of a paint job, but it pleasant enough. All the staff were great and extremely helpful with the exception of one or two of the waitresses who were quite rude.
The gym was good with lots of equipment but was always quite full when ever we went in, and the indoor swimming pool could certainly do with a scrub, but ok enough. The sauna and Jacuzzi are nice little extras, and I can't really comment on the other two out door swimming pools as it was still too cold to swim outside.
For the price we paid it was a nice stay and good value. I agree with other reviewers definitely not a 4* hotel, but a good 3*. My only issue really with this hotel was the lack of wifi- which you can only get in two of the rooms downstairs and even then you are barred from Facebook; and the out of control students!!!

Just returned yesterday (29th April). A tired hotel in need of a refurb., all the areas, spent a week in this hotel on a halfboard basis. All the staff were friendly as were the Maltese people, food was good for our stay. Not quite a 4*, but definitely a 3*. The standard of the hotel was of a 3* quality only and not a 4*. Who does the star rating anyway? Noisey at night (two nights) due to the French students staying. Room was large, for the two of us. But a pleasant week.

Room Tip: Check no students staying in the hotel.
