Like others we were a wee bit apprehensive about going to the Canifor Hotel, but we need not have worried the staff were first class. Our room was cleaned every day. The food was nice and that was why we paid the extra 14 Euro per person per day to upgrade to All Inclusive. Found the hotel was great value for money and would go back again, the only negative point was the night time entertainment which was poor.

after reading some of the reviews about this hotel, it was with much trepidation that i arrived there with hubby on Monday 1/11/2011!! to say i was pleasantly surprised is an understatement . This hotel was absolutely spotless and the staff were very helpful and friendly . I agree its not a 4* as we know it but definately a good 3* we will certainly not hesitate to stay here again!! Great value for money

I first stayed here in 2005 and it was an excellent hotel. The rooms on the first floor at the back of the hotel were spacious, clean, in good repair and well furnished.
However over the years things have changed.
I have stayed here once a year for the past 6 years when visiting Malta on a diving holiday and each year more cracks have appeared. Most recently was June 2011 with my fiance and some friends.
Over the years the food which was once excellent is now good at best and more often acceptable. The dining room is rather cramped and you can often be left standing outside the dining room waiting to be seeted The rooms are becoming substandard with air con that blasts out at noisy full power and you cannot alter the blower setting to have a gentle cooling breeze. Nor could the speed of the ceiling fan be altered which meant it sounded like a helicopter attack. (There I was having a day off from diving resting on my bed with a bottle of bourbon and I just couldn't get The Doors out of my head). You would normally have to pay for the fridge in your room as they are housed in a cupboard with a locked door but this time the cupboard was so close to collapsing the door was hanging off its hinges. Great for a free fridge but you daren't put anything on top of it for fear it would collapsed completely and you were charged for it.
A lot of the staff are familiar faces from over the years and are friendly and helpful and get a five thumbs up. But despite the wonderful staff there is no escaping the fact that only 2 small lifts serve the 6 floors with around 20 rooms (twins, doubles, family) per floor and do not seem to do it very efficiently, even when they are both working at the same time. Nor is there any getting away from the fact that rooms are being repaired on a tight budget rather than replacing dysfunctional fixtures and fitting.
I also noticed that there was a lot of all inclusive holiday makers this last visit too and can't help wonder if this has had an influence. Has there been a cut back on the quality of food to save money and compensate for the vast amounts of free alcohol people on all inclusive holidays seem determine to consume. Also with people so intent on drinking more than the cost of their holiday in alcohol so they can feel they have received a uber bargain, does the hotel feel it would be false economy to replace the unfortunate but inevitable breakages that will only be broken again the following fortnight thus repair them?
This year there was also a plague of room thefts which was the first time I had heard of such things in the 6 years of staying there.
5 of us from a group of 7 decided this would be our last year here and we would look for somewhere else to stay even if it meant paying a few extra quid.
In short I feel it only deserves 3 of it's 4 stars, however if you are looking for somewhere reasonably priced, well located and don't expect too much you wont be disappointed. But if you are expecting 4 star accommodation then look somewhere else.
Sorry Canifor but I'm afraid you have let yourselves slip.

However it is actually (allegedly) a 4*.

In Europe, if in order to get 4 stars you have to tick a box to say you do something then voila. However with those stars we also expect a bit of quality. My room, I admit, was, in itself, okay. It was clean (did a patch of ceiling flaking in bathroom). But all amenities required deposits to be paid; small CRT tv remote, safe deposit key, fridge - however did not go for that and next room's was very noisy and shook my tv every time it went off. There was only 2 English channels and both news. There was also a DVD channel where they played a movie from 9:30 - bad movies or one I had seen. The tuning was pretty bad anyway on most channels.

The biggest disappointment was the restaurant. I went half board expecting some good food - oops. So okay they were cooking for bulk but so did my school and it was better quality. The breakfast was not very good - I ate it because I had paid for it. They alternated between eggs, bacon, hard sausages and eggs, hard sausages and liver! The dinner was terrible. The potatoes were under cooked (the roast were definately not roasted) so I had meat and other vegetables. The"carvery" meat was mostly dry. I will say that one evening they had chops and that was okay and fish another night. The restaurant staff were not unpleasant apart from one who was a little rudish. Probably trying to be efficient with all the people. There was not many smiles until Friday night when they all seemed more relaxed. I am someone who likes to interact with people but did not get a chance to do that. Even the other guests seemed insular.
Okay good points - location. Close by main area, bus station around the corner. Classic car museum across the road. They also had free wi-fi in lobby.
So I will finish as I started if it were a 3 star hotel I would not complain but it wasn't.

Basically, all i can say is do not boook your holiday throuth teletext hoidays as they are total rip off merchants. This is ot just a bitter person either, this is someone who was too wise to agree to them wanting to charge extra for things that didnt even exist or were bare faced lies. icelolly.com or sunsave.com are 1000% better!

I was quite worried about my visit to the Canifor hotel after reading the reviews on this site. However, once we arrived I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and well presented and the food was good.

I can only assume that the hotel is under new management and has really improved!
