“nice place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2009

We have just got back from staying at the Suncrest. Myself , my husband and another couple. After reading reviews before we went, were a bit worried, but the hotel was lovely. The rooms are in need of an update but our room was a good size, plenty of storage space, good hot shower every day, air con that worked perfectly well plus a ceiling fan and it was really clean. We did upgrade and paid for a sea view, which was fantastic and the lady on reception put herself out so we could have 2 rooms next to each other. All the staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. If I had to complain about one thing it would be the lack of staff at peak meal times in the restaurant, there just was not enough of them to cope. The variety of food was good if some times repetetive. Evening entertainment was a bit boring, especially the chap that did the karaoke, he has no personality and you could not understand him ! The pool area is lovely with spectacular views and is cleaned every night. The hotel is in a nice location and only a 5 minute walk to bus terminus in Bugibba from wherer you can get to all of Malta cheaply and quickly. All in all we had a really good holiday and I would go back again.

We have just returned from a lovely week at the suncrest hotel cannot understand why people can write reviews saying how the hotel ,staff and food was bad, The hotel was lovely and clean the staff was polite at all times and very helpful and the food was lovely we would without a doubt return again to the suncrest I think some people just like to complain for the sake of it.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone! It was the worse hotel I Have ever stayed! It was dirty, food I would not even give my dog, the hotel staff where rude, and No Air condition anywhere not even in the rooms.
Dirty we never had clean bedding even when I complained the that there was blood on the sheets ( and it was not mine) we put the Towels on the floor only to find the maids had not replaced with clean ones but to put them back!! The maids left our balcony door open on day one so we told reception only to find it happening every day!
Food we paid all inclusive the food was that back we had to eat out every day!
I could go one but I don’t want to waste any more time on this Hotel I’ve wasted enough of my holiday complaining to the staff with nothing DONE!! Don’t go!!!

Me and my wife decided to spend our summer holidays in Malta and after doing some ground work, Seashells sounded to be the perfect resort for us. It ended up being a good choice with the hotel living up to our expectation with very comfortable rooms, the facilities by the pool were great, the food never let us down and all in all I think it’s excellent value for money... There was great night life in the vicinity but not overpowering the relaxed feel to the hotel’s location... Thumbs up! Their late breakfast is incredibly appreciated. Apart from serving till 11:30, choice is really nice. I’d go back any time!

My wife and I recently spent 5 nights at the Suncrest Hotel in Qawra. The front desk service upon arrival was prompt even at a very late hour, and we were excited to see that we had been allocated a higher standard of room than we had booked. Unfortunately this was the high point of our stay.

The room was only approximately 100 sq ft, and although the air was very humid and although the temperature was in the mid 30s the air conditioning was either broken or set (the temperature was centrally controlled) such that the room was sweltering and sticky, leading to a very bad nights sleep. The room was fairly clean, and did benefit from having both European and U.K. powerpoints. Two single beds had been pushed together instead of having one bed actually designed for multiple adults, which isn't ideal. Also the T.V. was very, very small (15 inches?).

The hotel bills itself as a 4 star resort, so we decided to try out the various amenities. The restaurant was tried on the first night, and the food was simply atrocious. For those not on full board, the meal cost was £15.15 per head, which gave you access to a buffet full of such wonderfully mediterranean food as roast beef, creamed chicken and boiled spinach. I was very glad that I had not went for full board.

There is a nightclub on Fridays and Saturdays that was actually surprisingly good, with very reasonable drink prices (2.2 euros for a rail drink). There was no noticeable sound leakage from this to our room only 2 floors above either.

The Casino on site was closed, but the pool area was pleasant. The Qawra area is VERY touristy, and it is quite hard to find an authentic Maltese meal and all of the nicest beaches and sites are at least a 30 minute busride away, I would therefore not recommend the location of this hotel. There also was no free internet available.

The best thing about the hotel was that the front desk was very helpful and accomodating, even arranging an extra hour in our room on our departure day at no charge.

The worst thing had to be the food. I can't stress strongly enough that this should be avoided. The roast beef actually cut my mouth because it was so tough.

In summation, only the restaurant was really bad, but we came away feeling that we definitely hadn't been to a 4 star resort.

Booked 2 seaview suites all inclusive, it cost a fortune, on arriving there were no beds for the children, the locks to the dangerous balconies didn't work, the air conditioning throughout hotel was non-existant, the pressure of water from bath was nil so had to bathe by the pool. The electrics were faulty lights would flicker on and off throughout the night even when you didn't want them to come on they did. There was a coating of dust throughout the suites it was filthy throughout our stay. Housekeeping would take your towels away in the morning and these would not be returned until 7.00 pm at night it was ridiculous. If anyone is nuts and goes to this hotel bring your own beach towels as they charge 14 euros per towel and unbelievably 4 euros each time you changed it. Ended up buying our own towels. Food was disgusting and I was told it was shipped in from outside caterers. Lunch was plain pasta with some garlic every day with a few salad items. Childrens' menu was chicken nuggets and chips for 10 days. We ate out after a few days. I felt ill most of my stay due to the intense heat of the Hotel as the air conditioning was non-existant it was like a Turkish Bath everywhere. The hotel advised me that it is only put on very low in the day. The swimming pool was fiflthy and extremely salty and constantly stung everyones eyes. The Suncrest's website is extremely misleading as the hotel or its amenities are nothing like they are portrayed. Don't go to this hotel at any cost.

This hotel needs knocking down and rebuilding. It took 3 rooms with a 100 euro upgrade to a superior timeshare room to find somewhere we could sleep in for 1 week. The 1st 2 rooms had wires hanging out the ceiling, black grouting in the bathroom, shabby furniture that looked like it would fall apart at any moment. Our upgraded room had far from superior air conditioning which which had to ask for maintenance to fix to be informed that the air conditioning was operated from a central system and it's wither bake or bake. Le Pavilion Restaurant cuisine was diabolical. The hot food is portion controlled and it's chips or chips with fat dominated meats and very over-cooked vegetables, if there was any there. The chinese restaurant round the corner ( we dined there 3 times and were booked all inclusive at the hotel) was superb and said Suncrest Hotel guests were one of their largest source of customers. The inside rim of the outdoor pool had a dirty green mark all the way around it. It was better to swim in the sea although you took your life into your hands negotiating the double step into the sea from slimy seaweed covered steps. The Sun & Surf Club provided adequate food. The entertainment was limited with the same gentlemen singing 3 nights running and the entire maltese population there dancing the night away. John who runs The Grill by the swimming pool(VIP all inclusive) made my husband's birthday very special and is the only asset the hotel has. The views from the hotel are all is has going for it if you book a seaview room. 2 star shabby sums it up with the management clearly devoted to lining their pockets and not making hotel guests feel special or wanting to return.

The property is conveniently located on the Salina to St Paul's Bay Promenade, merely a few minutes' walk away from the National Aquarium. Right opposite the hotel entrance guests can also find a very handy bus stop. Take a left outside of the hotel and you will immediately start walking towards all the hustle and bustle of Bugibba and Qawra, the main tourist hub on the island. Take a right and you'll be heading out on to the coast road for a 20 minute drive to St Julian's to enjoy the most popular night life spot in Malta. The hotel is located on the seafront for fantastic views of the Mediterranean and the best sunrise anyone could hope to wake up to. Guests can enjoy a sea water pool and pool bar (weather permitting) enabling them to experience a truly Mediterranean holiday.
