From the outset I would point out that our family stayed in a basic room
THE GOOD POINTS:
LOCATION-super spot, off the main road by about 100 metres so nice and quiet, but a 5 minute walk to the bus terminus which was ideal
CHEAP INTERNET ACCESS- 2 euros 50 cents for an hour
EXCELLENT POOLS, indoor and out, catering for my 15 year old and 4 year old-clean, good temperature and not salt water like so many on the island
THE BAD POINTS
HEAT, HEAT and MORE HEAT-our basic room didn't have air con which meant it was impossible to use for the first few days; I ended up sleeping on the sun deck several nights and it ruined the first few days of our holiday-the fans in the rooms just blew hot air around.
Eventually it got so bad we hired a portable air conditioning unit for 7 euros per day which was pretty ineffective-you had to keep a door open to let the hot air out which meant we all ended up getting bitten by bugs creeping in during the night
The air con unit we hired also leaked water-several litres per day, so it was a major safety hazard, but as it was the only one in the hotel available we clung onto it such was the desperate need to keep the temperature down
There was no safe haven as the reception area where the TV area was had an air con unit but this was never switched on, so it was always sweltering here too.
NO FREE TV IN THE BASIC ROOM
THE BAR WAS EMPTY, UNINVITING, AND LIKE EVERYWHERE ELSE, HOT HOT HOT-NO AIR CON AND COMPLETELY DIS-USED
Although the hotel had many good points including a decent pool and excellent location, it was majorly spoilt by its lack of provision to help with the 37 degree heat. I accept that we paid for a basic room, but on an island where heat is such a regular issue, air con SHOULD be a basic provision. We couldn't even get a cold shower as the water in the cold tap was hotter than that in the hot tap! And charging for TV, Please?
We COULD have paid more for a better room and I dare say the problems outlined would have been overcome.
HOWEVER if I wanted to spend more money on my hotel, I most certainly wouldn't choose to stay here. I'd happily stay here again in the cooler months, the hotel is fine.
BUT in summer, a basic room shouldn't even be sold, it simply isn't fit for humans to stay in.
