“Good location, clean apartments - good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2011

These apartments do exactly what they say on the tin. They are in a good location for exploring the sites, they were basic but clean - exactly what you'd expect for the money.

Room Tip: The ones overlooking the pool

I went to malta last year with my boyfriend. We stayed in one of the superior studios. He is keen to go back to the clover, i'm not so sure. The bed and air con really put me off. The bed is attached by a metal frame to the wardrobe with a not so comfy mattress there fore makes it difficult to sleep plus the bed can't be moved and so there is a huge gap between the bed and the wall. And although we went in july when malta was roasting the aircon only went down to 15 degrees so nights were difficult to sleep in. The location is fab, 30 seconds from everything! the beach, bus station, restaurants, shops, ATM, internet cafe, and the classic car museum! The kitchenette is a really good size, didn't manage to work the oven but the microwave came in handy for melting cheese at lunchtime! Oh and the room was always, always, kept so clean! went to the restaurant once and it wasn't too bad but there was better places around, food is cheap everywhere! There was good wardrobe and cupboard space for belongings. You can get a safety deposit box from the desk, well worth it, i remember it not costing much either, and you can get the key from the desk 24/7. they also have a lift for the days when you're dying of heat and can't walk up the stairs!Staff were amazing, all of them! So helpful, full of information and always there, didn't need to go looking for anyone. The Sundeck Bar! this is open during the day on the sundeck funily enough! and they serve the coolest drinks and ice-cream, much needed! the pool was a tad small, nd the pool area could hav been cleaner. Also lilo must be obtained very early in the morning or you've no chance as there aren't many but there's plenty of space on the near by public beach if you sleep in! Over all The Clover was a good place to stay and is a Great hotel for the money you pay! some other 3 stars you just don't feel comfy in, the only real criticism i have is the bed but other than that. Great!

The reception area is always in darkness and full of dodgy looking "locals".The apartments are in desperate need of updating and decorating-all the furniture is made of grey "Formica" ,even the very single beds! The resturant and bar were not open most nights, and you did not know until you tried the door. There was a very unwelcoming feel about the place,as if it was due to close anyday.Having said all that, the location was great and overall we loved the holiday.

Hotel is old and the room we had was without a view, but.. the staff were great and the room was cleaned every day with fresh towels and sheets (for self catering this is unusual) the pools X2 were very good ,the main pool was a sun trap even on a windy day.the rest of the hotel was realy very good and whilst we were self catering other guests told us the food was superb. the position of this hotel is great.. a loverly walk into town... 5mins from the bus station... and at night you can hear a pin drop as it is in a loverly quiet road.
we have already booked for next year, the hotel may be dated but the situation is superb and the staff can not be faulted......the ritz it is not.... my kind of hotel it is

Place is situated on what looks like a residential street, 5mins walk away from any pubs restaurants, if you just want a base to sun bathe and do some day trips its great for the price, be careful it costs extra for a 'superior room' which has the A/C in it (if you don't like sleeping in a sauna, make sure you request a superior room). Good points only 5mins to the Bus Station at Qawra/Bugibba, 15mins to Bugibba Square for those who want a little bit of life, any gamblers there is a casino round the corner (Holdem MTT on a Mon and Fri). Places to eat Incognito, Overflow do go to the Mal'et Restaurant in Bugibba.
On the downside the place does look a little bit tired, never saw anyone in the Bar or eating at the complex, limited sunbeds with no soft cushions. The beds are comfy, but they are designed to be lifted up when not in use, which is a major task in itself but leaving them down leaves two pieces of angle iron sticking out, 'trust me you will only catch your ankles once'!

I have just returned from a holiday at the Clover Holiday Complex. It was the best accomodation we have had on the Island in all the years we have stayed there and that is every year for the last 14 yrs.
I was a little reticent on reading the mixed reviews before we went and as we had not paid as much as some of the other accomodation we have stayed in was prepared for the worst. However when we arrived we were made very welcome from walking into reception. Our room was on the ground floor and although it was only one bedroom (which we had taken into account when booking) it was of a very good size. I was so impressed with how clean everything was. I am really finicky about cooking utensils and plates and cutlery being scrupulously clean and I was not disappointed.
Every pan was shining and spotlessly clean, cupboards, drawers etc were immaculate.
Both bathrooms (yes both) were beautifully clean and toilet bowl sparkling. Everything was in perfect working order apart from the air conditioning system, which was working very well but pumping out water into the courtyard. Once reported this was fixed within 30 minutes of reporting it.
The sofa bed was a little uncomfortable but when you are only paying for one bedroom that is something you have to put up with. It wasnt so uncomfortable that we could not sleep.
If there was a down side to the holiday it was the fact as has already been mentioned that there arent a lot of sun loungers around the pool as it is quite small and unless you are able to jump over your balcony wall on the morning, just after cleaning, and put your towel on a bed, you have little chance of securing a bed at all. I came out from my room quite often at a little after 9am and every bed had a towel on it but amazingly enough only two people actually sitting around the pool.
