“Better year on year..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

We have been a regular visitor to this hotel for the past 8 years, and year on year we have seen improvements. This year, the pool bar had been completely refurbished and was a great enhancement. The staff were attentive and friendly which made an evening visit a pleasure.

We stay in the timeshare appartments, which are comfortable and well equipped. Having been here for the past eight years this has become home away form home. The staff on reception throughout the day and night are welcoming and nothing is too much for them.

Having Alexis available every week day is a bonus and any queries are dealt with in a timely manner.

There is more to Xemxjia than meets the eye if you are prepared to look. It's the destination to relax, enjoy the bars/restaurants (The coffee lounge has a great selection of cakes to work your way through during the day and a good selection of meals in the evening.) and to soak up the mediterranean sun and gentle way of life.

We have stayed there for a couple of days after the season. Best thing was the price-value ratio.
Hotel Service was very good and helpful. Room Service was everyday in our room. There was also a small gym and quite good-looking outside pool.
As for the rooms - they are what you pay for. I wouldn't call them romantic or cosy - simple rooms with some stuff looking a little bit old. But they were also not bad.
We've had nice view for a St Paul's Bay from our room balcony - both view and balcony were big advantage for us.
There is also bar and a shop inside a hotel.

If you're planning staying there - take into consideration that there's no much to do in Xemxija, at least after the season. There were like 2-3 places around hotel to eat and drink. But one of them had a really great food!
There is also one small grocery shop.
Bus stop is like 2 minutes from a hotel so transportation by public transport is quite easy.

To sum-up - if you're looking for a good-price place to stay in Malta - it may be your choice.
We spend there couple of days and we really enjoyed Malta!

The "Porto Azurro" is a very nice hotel in Xemxija, which is a good place for walking (3 - 4 km) to Golden Bay or to Mellieha. You can also reach St. Pauls Bay and Bugibba by 20 - 30 minutes walk. There are also several bus lines; the bus stop is one one minute from the hotel.
The Porto Azurro team is very friendly and helpful, namely Alexis, Charlot and Rachel. The rooms are not only hotel rooms, but appartments, so that you have a fully equipped kitchen. The pool with view on the sea is great and (for Germany) still not too cold in October. For colder days, there is a small indoor pool, too.
Breakfast and dinner are given in a room without windows but with good climatization. The variety of food is normal for Maltese hotels. Considering the low prize you pay, the food is absolutely satisfying. You can also book the appartments without food, but there is only a very small shop close to the hotel.
You have noise from the street and from construction sites, but I have the impression that there is no place in Malta which is completely silent.

Room Tip: Ask for big balconies. If you don't mind the noise of the street, ask for sea view and you will...

It is always a pleasure to return to the Porto Azzurro for another week of peace and quiet. On arrival checking in is quick and easy and pleasant. The studio apartment is well appointed with all that is needed for a self catering stay and is bright and clean. The view from the balcony is one of countryside with a side view of the sea. From the bottom of the road (50m)there are busses to many different places on the island.
The on site minimarket is well stocked, the fitness room is well equipped for those wanting a bit of exercise and both swimming pools (indoor and out) are sparklingly clean.
Any problems or queries will be solved by the friendly face of Alexis who is to be found in reception each morning . You feel that she takes a real interest in you as a person.
I am looking forward to a return visit next year.

We stayed in a flat with 2 bedrooms, 2 complete bathrooms on the 4th floor. Big rooms with a nice view over the pool from 4 small balcony's.
The breakfast was ok but the dining room was not very pleasing.
The cleaning was so and so but the cleaning staff were very nice. The outdoor pool and indoor pool were very cold and too deep so they were not suitable for young kids. Even the Jacuzzi indoor was cold. The ladies i the reception were nice but sometimes very stressed. The communication between the reception and Alexis in the member relations didn't work so good. Ex. Alexis arranged for us to check out late but the reception did not know about that. We forgot 3 rings in a drawer when we left. We called Alexis but it took more than one week to check with the maids if they had found something. Still we haven't heard about the rings. Unfortunately that's exactly what we expected. We would have been very surprised but happy if they were "found" and returned. In that case a double 5 star score would have been appropriate.
We like Malta a lot and it was our 3rd trip to the island. It's easy and cheap to take the bus everywhere. We spent 1 day on the island Gozo and we took the Hop'on Hop'off bus all over, it was lovely.
