“Do Not Stay There..Appaling Aircon..Bland Food,Def Not 4 Star!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2009

Today we have returned from the Bella Vista and are very unhappy...Even though i m ready for bed i had to post this review......

In the Bella vista it transpired that the chiller is only on for short periods. on a time clock thus leaving us without aircon..
The night time temperatures were unbearable..
As i complained We were moved to the new bella vista suites up the road..
At 23:00 we moved with only tooth brushes up the road..
The single system split ac unit ran, but did not cool!! It then was made apparent after i spoke to the handy man that they are under guarantee and could not work on them!

I persuaded him to allow me to look at the outdoor unit(i am an ac eng in london)
comp running, fan running, but out of refrigerant!

Both maint engs off for the weekend(fri) unable to do anything
(one on a scout camp and the other in the US.)

Next we moved into a 3 bedroom on the 4th floor leaving our belongings on the 1st floor..i took a matress up to make it a 4bedroom..but this had no balcony,so if i wanted a pint in the eve when the kids were asleep i had to got down to the 1st floor..

Another couple on the same floor were having trouble with ther ac so i helped them..they had a 4 bed and a 5bed for themselves and there kids..they let us have their 5bedroom..
The ac was intermittent and could only be used by standing on the bed and pressing the manual button under the cover..
They couple were reporting the fact that their boy had been burnt by the chemicals in the spa roof pool..(the second complaint that i heard of this in two days)the couple have a pool at home and are familiar with the dosing of chlorine and when the maint eng showed them the readings it was incorrect amounts of ph and chlorine in use!!

The food was bland and the same at breakfast, only bacon once in 10days!! not that i got any as it ran out before i got to it (in the russian style bread que) then sasauges!!!
Only melon no other fresh fruit!
In the evening the vending machines for orange juice(powdered) ,pinapple, water, etc were cling filmed up and turned off, even though we were half board! we could not have even water even unless we bought it!

I am 36yrs and have travelled extensivly..including 10years ago when i did an overland trip 15 countries over 4months..including Turkey Jordan Iran Syria India pakistan Thailand

I did research it on trip advisor and read nothing to alarm me..since returning i have read several complaints all of a similar nature to ours..

I have never felt the need to complain before on such a level..

Please do not send anyone else to this hotel!...

We spent in total £1500 and £500 spending and we dont feel like we ve had a break!!

if your looking for a good holiday where the the hotel can make or break a holiday dont choose the bella vista . when we arrived the air con was not working and it was needed cos the day time temp was 95* degrees i reported it at 2 oclock and was told that nobody was available until the following day . it was fixed on the sunday on the monday it again was not working when i reported it i was told the reason it wasnt working was because i left the patio doors open what a load of rubbish ,there was no power coming from the unit .i demanded another room and got a room half the size and overlooking a brick wall on 3 sides of the balcony which i instantly declined eventually we did get a decent room after calling for the manager.
the bar staff did not have a smile or a thankyou in them
the pool area is so small that when 10 people are in the water it is full
the air con in the hotel lobby and bar was never turned on

please give this hotel a miss

The hotel is very nice, the staff are very helpful, polite and make you feel very welcome.
I recommend getting the all inclusive card if you go. Over all we all had a fantastic time. There is also a bus stop directly outside the hotel so traveling around the island is very easy. Only really bad thing about the hotel was that there was a psychotic south african man running around trying to make our stay as terrible as possible. The 6th floor (the roof) of the hotel is good, entertainment every night, a bar, a hot tub and some good views.

With the weather being around 40 degrees, it didn't help that most of the hotel did not have sufficient air conditioning which turned off at 8:15pm. When we complained to the manager he shrugged his shoulders and told us it was on timer which he would not change.
There were also 4 of sharing a bedroom with 4 single beds really close together which made it really chlostophobic with no privacy but the bathroom.
If you enjoy sunbathing around the pool, don't bother coming here. There was a limit of 40 sunbeds around the small, crowded pool, which looked filthy. The pool area was is the shade most of the day so we would leave the hotel and get a 20 minute bus ride to the beach.
When speaking to other guests, they all had the same stories. One even had an expensive bracelet stolen from there room and when they spoke to the manager, he told them they should of put it in the safe, which you had to pay for! I would not recommend this place to anyone who wants a descent pool to relax by, helpful staff and security.

The Bella Vista should not be rated as a four star hotel! We found minor problems everywhere and after discussing this with other holiday makers we learned we not the only ones and had really come out quite lucky compared to some!
The hotel itself is very nice but we came to the conclusion that they were having money or staffing issues.
The consistency on what was in our all inclusive package varied day to day and with different staff members who seemed to work around the clock! We ended up eating out every day as we couldn't face another meal of 'help yourself' heated food that was never labeled and never once matched what was on the menu outside. The all inclusive alcohol if you can call it that, leaved a-lot to be desired and the only food we liked was the bar snack menu that we got shown on the 5th day of our holiday!
There are many nice areas in the hotel that were never used or even lit up! The staff seemed friendly and helpful but had no consistency between what they did or sold, just one example- one minute bottled water was all inclusive then wasn't.
The rooms were nice, we stayed in 2 as on the last day we had tp pay a supplement to go into another room to keep our baggage safe as we didnt fly until midnight that evening. We were told by the holiday provider that there was a safe store for baggage this was not the case and anyone can walk in and out of the baggage room, there is no security procedures in place or even a member of staff to monitor bags in and out, we will be taking this up with the holiday provider though as this was promised through them.
Overall Malta was fantastic and we had a super holiday as we spent most of our time out of the hotel. Should NOT have a four star rating and is not being used to its full potential. Other customers arrived to rooms which still had slept in beds and not been cleaned and also similar inconsistency's with food and staff. Also the beach is not 350 yards away in any direction!!!The park which you can see on the picture at the front of the hotel is not even grown yet and is in the process of being developed!!!! I

have just stayed for 7 days - had to wait 2 hours before we could get in room but was given the all inclusive card so we could get something to eat and drink. Wonder what
all inclusive means to Bella Vista - usually you can get your drinks including local spirits free - we had to pay for any spirit drinks. Entertainment was average, food was good, room had no air conditioning for the first night - towels not changed and room not cleaned last 2 days. Bathroom could have been cleaner. Would not recommend to anyone - would go to malta again but try the other end of the island probably Silema.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel in August 2009 and we were not impressed at all. Staff are sullen and unhelpful. The breakfast is very poor, same everyday, powdered juice from a machine, cheap nasty coffee from a machine, cheap sausages and over cooked eggs with beans that all they offered with some nasty toast.
One day the shower was just spraying water sideways so we called reception and they said we would have to wait till6:30pm for it to be fixed (this was at 4 oclcock) as this is when security would be free. I insisted that the manager come and deal with it, which he did but only partly fixed it and it stayed that way all week. No towels in the room one day, on Sunday they dont even clean the place. We had a couple of beers in the room and the glasses just stayed there all week they never removed them.
Its a 4 star Youth Hostel not a 4 star Hotel. If you dont mind the 10 minute walk via the back streets to town its ok but its not in the centre and is on a busy main route into Qwara. All in all it was OK as a place to sleep but nothing else.

My advice as a well seasoned traveller - dont stay here.
