We are a couple in our twenties from UK. This made us the youngest people in the hotel by about 40 years on average. This may be due to the time of year - we went in January on an all-inclusive deal.
On the whole, we think Bella Vista is a very good value for money hotel.
When we arrived to check-in, we were told that there had been a mistake with our booking and our room was not available until the following day! This was annoying. They told us that they had arranged a room for us in a similar (also 4-star) hotel called Topaz Hotel. Having stayed the rest of the week in Bella Vista, Topaz Hotel is NOT anywhere close to the standard. The food at Topaz was cold, bland and served without a smile. The waiter complained to my girlfriend for leaving a sprout on her plate. The rest of the residents at Topaz were even older than those at Bella Vista and the general environment of the place was eerie, dusty and unloved. The rooms were grey and had no character whatsoever.
However, once our stay at Bella Vista began, the holiday got a lot better. Lunch and dinner were amazing. The restaurant was a nice temperature, had a cosy, open, relaxed feel about it and was clean. The food was brilliant. A choice of fresh salads/vegetables every time and a hot starter also (generally soup or pasta). Then three choices for main course - generally fish, pork or chicken for example. They didn't seem to mind how much of whatever combination of the dishes we had (or if we went up for seconds!) Dessert was good - home-made pies, cakes and jelly then cheese and biscuits as well.
The only criticisms of the food we would say are: it was often a bit too salty but no less lacking in taste AND the english breakfast was not very good at all - low quality meat and shell in the scrambled egg (one of my pet hates!). Also there never seemed to be any way of getting a nice coffee - only instant machine coffee with non-descript milk! This could apply to Malta in general coming from a tourist's point of view. But what do you expect from a budget hotel?
Staff were all nice. All-inclusive drinks included a range better than we expected and they didn't mind us taking them to our rooms.
Downstairs was a pool table, indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna (not included in all-inclusive) and a gym that was locked but we could've had the key if we'd wanted it.
Entertainment was really not our sort of thing!! But nice to see people enjoying themselves. The rest of the residents all seemed to be quite happy with the hotel.
The bar/lounge area was a little bit like a doctor's waiting room in parts - it was kind of all a conglomeration of reception/cafe/bar in one and the parts of the bar where we might have wanted to sit were often in darkness but, again, it was a very nice atmosphere. The staff were willing to bend the rules, perhaps because it wasn't peak season, about us taking all-inclusive food out of the hotel and holding on to games overnight etc
I wanted to get us breakfast in bed on the last day but apparently this service can not be booked the night before which I thought was a bit silly.
Lastly, they didn't actually put us in the superior room that we had booked - we found this out on the last day - superior rooms are those which include tea and coffee making facilities and have an island view (and whose balconies are in sunlight most of the day) but because we'd had an awesome time on the island, we didn't care that much. It would be hard to point the finger as there were so many middle-men involved in our all-inclusive deal that finding out whose fault the mixup was may have been an ordeal in itself!
All-in-all then, we highly recommend Bella Vista Hotel
(and DON'T stay at Topaz Hotel!)

Dear guest, we thank you for letting future guests know what we offer. At this time of the year it is normal that we have older guests in the hotel.Young couples like you can still mix very well with older couples. We have quite a lot of repeat guests at the moment and they are all wonderful, and very easy to talk to.We apologise if our breakfast was not to your liking, and we are glad you taught the food was brilliant during dinner. We normally take orders for breakfast in rooms on the same day , not the day before. This is normally brought up after 09.15 when the restaurant has relaxed a little.
