“A very nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

My wife and I have been going to the Bella Vista since 2003 and can honestly say that it is good value. Sadly my wife passed away last year and my last visit was as a solo traveller, so I have experienced two of the categories listed and have enjoyed both. Some of the reviews I have read are valid e.g. the towels were not sparkling white but the food is good. The restaurant supervisors and staff and the chefs are a credit to the hotel. The house-keeping staff are very pleasant and do a great job. It is a nice size hotel - not too big, but big enough to support regular entertainment which is quite good. The night reception staff were very helpful and friendly and check in very easy. It is a bit of a walk into town but the hotel offers free transport or you can use the local bus service. A bus rover ticket cost me 12 euros for seven days unlimited travel all over Malta and the bus stop is very close to the hotel. There is a shop in the hotel and vending machines available at all times which I found very handy. Overall this hotel has everything you need for a memorable holiday and I look forward to going back for many years to come. Chris Barradale. Southampton.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking pool get most sun but higher floors also get nice views of countryside.

We thank you for another good review. We agree that our staff are a credit to our hotel, they make our guests feel welcome , and nothing is a problem for them.We offer free shuttle bus service during the day till 23.00 hours to the centre of BUGIBBA/ QAWRA.The hotel shop is more like a village shop where you can buy neccesities like shampoo, sovenirs, newspapers and a lot more at very good prices.Glad you enjoy your stay with us, it is nice when guests return to their second home.We thank you for choosing Malta .

Many guests are ignorant of the Q.A. system and the criterion used to set the star rating of an accommodation provider. For the price paid on our all inclusive six night stay you could not fault the variety and quality of food and all staff were very helpful and friendly and always came quickly to show your to your table to order your drinks before your meals. The rooms were a good size with quality bedding, protectors etc.In October the sun is lower and in places round the pool it is shaded but there is always the roof terrace. If a higher quality of four star is required there is a Hotel in Mellieha at 200 euros p.p.p.n.

Room Tip: Inland view on a wing off the main corridor(not the internal rooms)

thank you for a realistic review. We appreciate this review enen more as it is coming from a guest
who has travelled all over and knows when a hotel is good value or not.We thank you for your remarks about our staff and food. The guests get a good deal whether on BB, HB and allinclusive.
Ithink guests have to keep in mind what they are paying for accomodation before expecting the impossible. We know there are allinclusive hotels who give their guests cocktails and other things, but the rates charged are twice sometimes four times what we charge. Thanks again for your review and we hope to have you back in Malta soon.

Lucky for us we read the sign that said the bar on the roof terrace was shut in October - but the terrace was open so no need to sneak towels up and place on the beds during the night.

Great hotel and only down side to hotel no large pool with direct sunlight.

Food good but would of liked more choice of salad as not a big meat eater.

Staff friendly and helpful.

Hotel offer a free shuttle bus into local town which is great.

Would highly recommend the south open bus tour of the island which included an hour boat trip around the harbour, for only 15 euros.

Room Tip: do not go for an internal facing room unless you want to look directly at your neighbour!

no way is this a 4 star hotel.it might have the facilities but not the class.the outdoor pool was dirty and is built up all round so gets no sun and is therefore freezing.the indoor pool is tiny.the food is monotonous with very little choice.(there was 3 nights out of a week we walked out without eating)and as for being all inclusive thats a joke.apart from the drinks(which you have to pay for after 11 pm)the meal times were 07-30/0930 breakfast 12-30/1-30 lunch and 17-45/20-00 dinner. snacks 10-00/12-30 and 13-30/15-00!!there was nothing like icecreams for kids which was a disappointment for some families.you have to pay for tv remote, kettle safe (thats ok cos thats usual)but you also had to pay to use the fridge in your room (1st time in over 15 years of traveling abroad).we were left only 2 bath towels one day (no mat or hand towels)the hairdryer blew cold hair and was only fixed 2 days before we left and the lifts kept breaking down.oh and the best of it we went out one day and came back to find they had changed the lock on the door for a swipe card but didnt inform us so after trailing up two flights of stairs with the key(yes they gave me the key)I had to go back down and tell them.ps it also happened to other people.if you can get this cheap on b&b its ok but dont expect what you pay for.read all the reviews and youll find theres plenty more like mine.

Room Tip: difficult because rooms on the front are noisy(busy road)some rooms on side overlooking pool get no...

thank you for your review. We still have guests swimming daily in the outdoor pool in October,
don't forget this is not August and it is normal that the water is cooler than in summer.I think
you could have spoken to our managers if things were not what you expected. The allinclusive
package is offered as per contracts signed with all tour operators including time we serve drinks and food. One day the maid forgot to give you a hand towel, is this a very big problem. If you called reception we would have sent one in a few minutes..The lock system are being changed to a card system, probably the receptionist was not yet advised by our contractor. We apologise if there was some shortcomings from our staff .

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

We stayed in Bella Vista for one week 6th - 13th October. We found the staff to be so helpful, reception, cleaning, bar staff, management etc all went out of their way to make our stay a happy one.
Our room was spacious and clean, sheets, towels etc changed every day, promptly in the mornings. Breakfasts could have included more healthy options, but if preferences include cooked breakfast or ham and cheese these were plentiful. We went out to the sea during the day and the hotel kindly provided a packed lunch containing ham and cheese sandwiches, crackers and cream cheese, orange, apple and water. All free of charge.
We enjoyed a varied selection at dinner time and the waiting staff were very attentive and friendly.
Weather in Malta was lovely with the exception of a dramatic thunderstorm on our last day!
We found our travel rep Charles to be extremely friendly and helpful, letting us know of short cuts to the 'town' and the buses to the lovely beaches (very cheap!)

All in all our stay was lovely and for what we paid for an all inclusive we left feeling very happy with all aspects of the hotel.
Incidentally I left my reading glasses behind and I contacted Nadia at Reception who responded within minutes to let me know they were found by housekeeping and they would get them to me. More great service!

We travel a great deal, several holidays per year and I would fully recommend anyone to stay at Bella Vista and I really hope we will return someday.

Thanks to all

Room Tip: Our room faced onto the road so could be quite noisy.

We thank you for your contribution. It is nice when guests appreciate the efforts of our staff. We try to give our guests value for money paid , unfortunately some guests look for minor inefficiencies to complain. We are glad you liked the food and you taught our restaurant staff were attentive and friendly.Somtimes you wonder how guests staying during the same week can have such different opinions about the food and the hotel. We thank you for choosing Malta and we hope to have you again in the near future.

Just back from staying a week , enjoyed our experience found the room a ok , twin beds come in handy when one just wants to sleep lol , food i thought was very good , especially if you like fish [ pity though prawns were never on the menu ] and also the soup it tasted like home made just like your mum would make . The only problem i have found is ive put on half a stone and all that food and lots of drinks for some reason did not agree with my tummy lol . Overall nice hotel , good staff , good food , would recommend it , and i expect a big discount the next time i book for this hotel lol.

We got back from Malta yesterday after spending 2 weeks at the Bella Vista. As we stayed B&B I can't comment on the meals except breakfast. First thing you notice is there are no trays. This means 2 or 3 trips up to the counter to carry everything back to your table.Grab a table before getting your food. A bag or your room keys seems to be the accepted form of reserving the table. The tea is luke warm, unless you are lucky to get a cup when a fresh pot is put out. I suggest you use the vending machines which are free. The food is plain with little variation. We found it either warm, or very hot, depending on when it was put out. Not sure what they can do about that though. If they kept the lights on, it will dry out, if they turn them off, it gets cold quicker. The staff member who serves you the hot food seemed a bit reluctant to give you extra, but just keep shaking the plate at him and he will put it on. We found the best time to go down is around 9.15am. Before this you may have to wait, but not for long. One staff member, called Raymond I believe, was really helpful He made a point of coming to us and explaining how things worked on our first morning. Thank you for that Raymond, it was most helpful. The pool is quite small, although it looks bigger in the photo. It is not disabled friendly though, so if that is a consideration for you, you might want to try elsewhere. We were upgraded to a suite on arrival. Some people have said they had problems with the suites, but ours was great. The call button for the lifts is VERY noisy and you will hear it loads of times in the middle of the night. It would have been helpful if the hotel had left some printed instuctions on how to use the air-con. I figured it out in the end, but only after phoning recepetion to ask why it didn't work. You have to have all the doors and windows closed before it wil work. It goes off after an hour, unless you set the timer for it to stay on, it will also go off if you open a the door or window and will need to be reset. As for the "powercuts" somebody mentioned, there were none. Each room has sensors which detect movement. If there is none, then after a while, they shut the electric down (this will turn your air-con off as well) The maids were lovely. They kept the room clean and tidy. The towels were changed everyday if you wanted them to. Not sure how often the sheets were changed though. It seemed as if they were changed every day for a few days, then they missed a couple. May be the management could put in the rooms on which days they were to be changed? They start cleaning quite early. If you are having a lay in and you hear the door, just shout "later please" and they leave you alone. For some unknown reason they turned the air-con off in the lounge in the evening. We tried a couple nights of entertainment, but it was to uncomfortable and gave it a miss after that. Overall the hote is clean and tidy. It is in need of a refit, but I suppose like most of us, they have a tight budget. Some WD40 on the hinges wouldn't cost a lot though. The pavements around the hotel are a nightmare, as are most of the ones in Malta. If you are disabled or a bit infirm, I would give the whole of Malta a miss. Lovely country, but certainly not disabled friendlyly in fact most of the paths are not wide enough for a wheelchair. Buy a 12 Euro bus ticket. They are excellent value and you can get around the whole island with them. The 12 and 31 both go into Valletta If you come back on the bus, it will go to Bugibba (pronounced budgie ba) Stay on the bus for it's return trip to Valletta and get off at just up the road from the hotel. You go up a really sharp righhand bend, up a hill, then sharp left. The hotel is the second stop after that. Theres a nice cafe in the park across the road. They do free wifi for those who need facebook etc.Be warned though. The zebra crossing just outside the park is used only by the brave. It is not like england where you can be fined for failing to stop. Your best bet is to creep out slowly and be ready to jump back. DON'T assume drivers will stop, most don't. It's quite a stroll up to Bugibba from the hotel, but by no means a hike.If you go to Gozo, the open top bus is a must. You can book it in the hotel. Costs 23 Euros each, but you get a free harbour trip (worth 15 euros) thrown in. Mdina is another place you have to go. The views from the cafe are stunning. If you are tempted to use the horse drawn carriage, then batter a price before you get on. Som charge a few euros, and others around 20. The price list seems to be whatevery figure is in the drivers head at that time. If you go to the War Museum then beware. It gets VERY hot in there, but still a must for those who like that sort of thing. There are pleanty of shops that sell stuff. so don't feel you have to pack the kitchen sink and risk paying extra weight charges. Most people speak english, and as is the case over here, if you are polite to them, they will be polite to you. One last thing. If you are planning on hiring a car, then make sure the horn works so you can join in. Just about every driver on the island drives around tooting the horn!! Don't take it personal, just join in. If you are looking to bring fags back, most shops only have a limited supply. There is a cash and carry not far from the hotel which has a ample.supply. GV is about 70 euros for 10 50gms packets L&B are around 40 for 200 Pall Mall are round 3.5 euros a packet.

Room Tip: As far away from the lifts as you can get. The motors and call bells will keep you awake at night.

thank you for your feedback. Our head waiters are normally at the door during breakfast & dinner to see guests to their table, and you do not need to grab a table. There are 4 tea pots in use during breakfast which are continually replenished. The guests can go to thee buffet counter as many times as they want , and food is never refused to anyone. All rooms have sensors which cut off the electricity supply minutes after the guests leave the rooms. It is obvious the aircon will not come on if the balcony door is open. You gave guests some very good tips of places they need to visit.Malta has a lot to offer and guests are advised to ask our staff or the girl on our information desk by the main door of nice historical places to visit.Thank you for choosing Malta.
