“More than expected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2012

We almost never go all inclusive on the basis that they are almost always disappointing, but in this instance we were so very pleasantly surprised. The hotel was wonderfully clean and the staff did everything that could reasonably be expected to make our stay as comfortable as possible. I am convalescing after a long illness and the quiet and relaxed atmosphere of hotel was exactly what the doctor ordered. The food and drinks were above standard in comparison to other such places and we were always impressed by the cleanliness of the hotel and the hard work of the staff.

Thank you very much for a wonderful holiday. We will be back.

and it is normal that they go all the way to make sure our guests are happy. Our housekeeper and her staff will be pleased with your remarks about the cleanliness of the hotel. We thank you for choosing Malta and hope your health will improve every day.

We recently stayed at this hotel and have to say we were pleasantly surprised. The reviews we had read before we left had left us feeling very apprehensive. However having stayed for a week we feel the critisisms have been unfairly harsh. No it is not equivalent to a british 4* more a 3* but neither does it charge 4*prices. we found the staff friendly and helpful.choice of breakfast was bread toast, cereal ,hams.cheese and full english.Good value 3 course evening meals. The rooms were basic but clean and towels changed daily if required. We enjoyed pleasant walks in small park opposite and only 10 mins walk to Bugibba if the short cut is used. All in all had a pleasant week. CM

Room Tip: ask if you need double bed. Front of hotel have views over the park.

We thank you for finding time to tell us about your stay with us.We are glad you think some of the reviews have been unfairly harsh. It is nice when guests keep in mind what they are paying to stay in hotels in Malta before compairing to British standards. We all try to give value for the money our guests pay altough it is sometimes very difficult to please everyone. The public park
opposite the hotel is a beautiful place to relax and read a book.We thank you for sharing with us
the good time you spent in Malta and hope to see you again soon.

March 2012
Checked in and were told we were in the Bella Vista Suites. These were in a block along the road. I had to ask for someone to show us where to go.
A receptionist took us, never offered to carry a bag, he just unlocked the first door and left us to find the lift and room.
The room ( sorry suite) consisted of a bathroom, dining room and bedroom. Four single beds, one table and four plastic canteen chairs. A fridge, microwave and sink…but no kettle, cups, plates or cutlery. I asked for a kettle and was told it would be 1euro 50cents per day to hire.

The sheets were of a pale grey colour due to the fact that they were so old, looked as if they hadn’t been ironed let alone washed.

Breakfast was to be taken in the hotel. Juice that watered down all flavours were the same and cereals of a quality that bore no resemblance to any make that I have ever eaten. Bacon that had that much fat and bone it could not be eaten. Sausages the size of a little finger and solid fried eggs. Lumps of fried bread more like dog biscuits Breakfast was the same each day but minus the bacon on four days out of seven and grey scrambled eggs that bounced one day.
It was very cold and the room had no heating. I rang reception and told them we were cold. We were told to use the air con and switch it to heat. This we did but still no heat. Rang reception again and they said they would look into it. No change by evening.
My husband was so cold he had three T shirts, a fleece and jacket on and got into bed to keep warm.
The cleaner wore a fleece when cleaning the rooms.
Still cold and told it was our fault for not using the air con correctly. Turned air con to heat but again nothing improved.
I complained again and told the receptionist that if they didn’t do something I was going to sit in reception with blankets wrapped round and complain to every one who came through the doors. A man arrived with a heater.
Next day no electric in the room. Neither did next door. Was told it was our heater that had caused it and so they took the heater away. The man next door had been to bed in his coat. The electricity went off again in our two rooms
The man who came told us that the block was new and so the bricks hadn’t had time to warm up…all lies…. judging by the state of the bathroom tiles the building had been up for some time.
Not once did the manager come to the block or ask if we were alright.
Rang reception again to say we had no heat. She said she would tell the manager…no one came no one rang back.

Escaped on Sat 10th.

In short, the hotel made a mistake on our time of arrival and date and so a room was not available for us when we arrived (departure date and time was also wrong) and the result was that they charged us for an extra night, even though we had written proof of our booking, times of arrival etc. When we asked to speak to the manager , he said in perfect English, "they have to pay extra" and walked off, leaving us with the receptionist to sort it out. The holiday rep was useless, no help at all, and the travel company just the same. a year from when we first booked it we are still waiting for some money back. They have only just offered us £69, the price of a ruined holiday.

Room Tip: book another hotel

we thank you for your review.I suggest you email our reservations dept. on
reservations@bellavista.com.mt , and they can check and give you details of the booking recieved on your behalf. The receptionist probably explained to the manager about your problem
and because we only get paid according to the booking by the tour operator you needed to pay for the extra night.

Stayed at the Bella Vista for 7 nights . Good size room with all the basic necessities and very comfortable beds, slept well. Entertainment most nights. We went all inclusive and the food menu was a bit repetitive but very edible and overall the package was great value. Maybe the hotel is not a four star but the staff certainly are, they could not have been more friendly or helpful.

BEWARE. At best a 2*

Reenactment of the great siege to set the scene.....
On arrival we were treated to a reenactment of the siege of Malta where the huge queue of guests/inmates attempt to get to the counter and then get service from the at best disinterested sole member of staff. You add your luggage to the mountain in the luggage room with no assistance avoiding a luggage avalanche. At this point you try to remain positive....

REDEFINING 'beer', 'all inclusive' and making new friends...

Next I ordered a beer at the bar and despite being fully exclusive you are asked to pay as you have ordered something not on the list?! ('bombardier' and anything other than the local fizzy dubious quality lager is apparently not beer). I enquired what list? And was told the one a received on checking in- no such list had been provided (it later transpired they had run out) and the whole episode was thoroughly embarrassing. The girl serving remained 'frosty' throughout our stay at one later point chastising me that 'ordering all my drinks at once would make it easier for her' when I had momentarily paused mid order! Customer service was non-existent here although in fairness the other bar staff were very friendly and efficient, providing you got your list choice right.

Food......
I would have liked some after the constant queuing. ....Generally awful, cheap, often barely warm and on one occasion containing a snail- (not on the list and suprisingly not extra! ) The food was dismal with the exception of the soup. Don't expect tea or coffee with you lunch or dinner as the machines are turned off. Morning juice is some watered down rubbish and best of luck if you fancy trying to find some fruit.
Interestingly the hotel showed it could do proper food for the locals during its 'grand buffet' during the weekends showing the rip off contempt demonstrated to the rest of us.

Wine."...I don't think so.
I am not fussy regarding my wine as my usual vintners include Tescos and Llidls, the white inhouse wine, which is the only one the list should be called chateau nitro morse - that's a paint stripper for those who don't know. The red is so thin I gave up.

Extras........
You have to pay extra for a tv remote, kettle in the room, towel to use the indoor (rather chilly) pool, use of the sauna.....etc, you get the picture!

The outside pool picture in their marketing material has been taken with a rather creative lens. Similarly some pictures show a green area in front of the hotel.....it's not theirs although the impression clearly is intended to suggest it is......in front of the hotel you can sit and watch a busy road approx 15 feet in front of you.

Lifts.......intermittent, generally one broken.

In summary
This is in my opinion just about a 2* hotel by English standards. Best avoided. I have catalogued/evidenced much of what I have said with pictures, and will add them later. The manager appears to answer these reviews so I would say to him/her stop trying to defend the indefensible and start acknowledging the deficits. You are not what you market yourself as being. This is incidently the only time I have felt aggrieved enough to put anything even vaguely negating on Tripadvisor.

We thank you for your feedback. We try to answer these reviews in a very honest way and admit
that sometimes we are not perfect. We give our guests value for money and it is not fair your comparing with English standards when we pay 5 times to stay in UK, what you paid to stay in Malta . We have various menues on the tables in the lounge bar showing drinks available for our Allinclusive guests, cannot understand what lists you are refering to.We apologise if a particular bar staff member appeared ' frosty; normally this girl is a favourite with customers.
Our manager personally apologised about the tiny snail in your spinach.Sometimes being sarcastic does not help to mantain good relations with staff in a hotel.Again you were sarcastic in this review about the snail same words you used in the restaurant. Again my apologies if we were not up to your expectations, WE TRY.

Stayed at the Bella Vista two weeks ago. Nice pleasant hotel, staff quite friendly. There was no heating on in the hotel, and on a night in our room, it was quite cool. Complained about this, and was given an electric heater. Other than this, meals were okay, hotel was clean. The hotel was a little bit out of the way from the centre of Bugibba, but there was free transport into Bugibba. Would not stay at this hotel again because of its bad location.

Room Tip: Go for an outside balcony room, some face inside.

Thank you for your review. We had to provide heaters in some rooms as we had a major problem on one wing of the hotel, this took a number of days to fix. Some guests prefer to stay
in a quite area , others prefer the noisy parts. We appreciate your remarks about our staff and
the hotel.Thank you for choosing Malta.
