“HOTEL SANTANA MALTA POOR”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

just back from a 6 night stay at Santana as part of a group tour and we felt that we were treated with very little friendless by reception staff and also they seem to want to charge for every thing and mostly on the double if you hadn't your receipt to prove you had paid in the dining room. location was perfect beds very uncomfortable 2 single beds pushed together for a double with bed clothes that would only fit a child's bed food was good but if you were late to the buffet they were slow to re fill (a bit stingy) as part of a group we generally felt that the hotel was in poor condition carpets frayed and gaps in floor balcony doors banging at night when it was windy household staff didn't look or speak to us until our departure I wonder why? having visited other hotels at night staff and general appearance were far superior. Not being fussy we stayed in goo beforehand for 3 nights in a 3 star hotel and staff and were much more friendly and hotel decor and furnishing were not worn so overall not very happy with hotel

Just returned from a 10 day stay at the Santana Hotel St Paul's Bay Malta and would like to say it was made all the more enjoyable by the staff and facilities, nothing was to much trouble for them, the food was O.k. and the dining room staff were very attentive and friendly, its location scores highly with the bus station just a short walk away, would go and stay again with no hesitation.

We had a recent 5 night stay and may I just say that for what we paid, had a very nice time. We got a recently upgraded room which overlooked the square. Staff very helpful and pleasant, breakfast good with plenty of choice. We had dinner on our last evening, and again, very nice, and only 12euros each. There will be some who expect total perfection but as I say, excellent value for money, and the ongoing modernisation programme only enhances this hotel. Central location near bus station.

this is our fourth trip to this hotel and the fact we continue to return should speak volumes. This is a great hotel in a good location, several minutes to the bus station and to the promenade.
We booked a suite on this occasion and pleased we did as the extra room was fantastic.
The staff are friendly and helpful and the food outstanding.
The hotel is undergoing a refurbishment at the moment but this is being done discretely so you don't notice.
We are already looking at booking again for a much longer stay here again next year.
Please don't take any notice of any negative comments on these reviews as I can assure you they really are not justified

Room Tip: try a room at the front of the hotel as the views at the rear are not good

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

We have just returned from two weeks at the Santana. This was our fifth visit to the Santana, so we knew what to expect, but were a little wary by some of the less generous comments on here.

As has been said by many people, the hotel is rated 4 star by the Malta tourist board, but to be honest it would get about three and a half stars elsewhere. The hotel is trying hard to maintain that with continuing improvements.

Some of the rooms were described as needing TLC and it seems that the hotel has taken this on board with the new shower rooms in some of the rooms. The public areas are clean, tidy and well maintained.

As before, most of our niggles were about the clientele rather than the hotel itself, so there’s little point in putting them here.

The staff in every department, bar, reception, cleaning and restaurant were all excellent, and helped with whatever was asked of them.

We were on half board terms, and the meals were more than adequate , if a little repetitive over the two weeks. There were regular "games" of guess the menu ... but the quality was good enough. We worked out that it is possible to have a seven course dinner ...soup, salad bar, fish, pasta, main course, desert, and cheese & biscuits. And Maltese night was excellent .. aljotta, bragioli and gbejnet , A+ for trying ( but a few "meat and two veg" guests were moaning about having to eat foreign food .. even though they were in Malta! )

It should be explained to guests, perhaps with signs in the restaurant, that tables are not reserved but on a first come first served basis. We had near warfare with one group that we were sitting at their table , even though they arrived at the hotel after us!

I think it is a recommendation that there are so many repeat guests, who often stay for four weeks or longer.

Overall a relaxing holiday, and we’re already thinking about returning later this year !

Room Tip: Front of the hotel has the better views, but the back of the hotel is quieter.

Have just returned from a 5 night break at The Santana and we will definitely stay there again.
We have visited Malta many times and this is definitely one of the better 4 star hotels in the area.
We stayed in a suite on the 4th floor, which was very roomy and there was lots of storage space including large wardrobes, drawers, and cupboards. There was a safe in the wardrobe, but this had to be paid for. They even provided an ironing board and iron in the suite (the last thing I want to see on holiday, but ideal for families).
The bathroom was large with the wash-basin inset into a marble counter and a huge wall mirror.
There was a bath with a shower over, but be warned, the bath is very narrow.
We stayed on a B & B basis - there are so many places to eat in the area, at reasonable prices - and found the breakfast buffet totally adequate. The usual choices, meats, cheese, fruit, yoghurt, various breads, rolls, cakes - and of course the full English - fried, scrambled or boiled eggs, sausages, bacon, beans - even chips - yes, chips! There were juices and tea, coffee and hot chocolate, which was lovely.
The rooftop pool was closed during our stay, but we used the indoor pool, which although small was adequate, although it did look as if it could do with a coat of paint.
Overall, we had a lovely time at The Santana.

Room Tip: Choose a suite - nice and roomy.

We stayed for 3 nights 13 to 16th April on a B&B basis.
The staff were welcoming and booked us into our room at noon, The hotel is undergoing some updating and our room was yet to be done, however it was a good size with a small balcony.
The bathroom was fine and overall, although a little tired, the room was fine. Breakfast was a buffet with plenty of choice. The only problem seemed to be a lack of tea cups!
The café was good with fantastic cakes and good prices on snacks and drinks.
The Wi-Fi was excellent and not too expensive. The hotel is well placed for the bus station and plenty of places to eat and drink. We would stay there again.
The only bad experience was the "packed breakfast" we asked for on the last morning. We were leaving at 7.30 which was the time breakfast was served from, so we asked for a breakfast box to take with us. We got a juice, water and 1 small rather stale bun..with tea or coffee. Not really a very good ending to a nice stay.
