“good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

We stayed at San Pawl from 4th - 11th October and had 2 rooms booked for ourselves and 2 adults with learning disabilities. Our first rooms were very spacious and had a good size balcolny, fridge and aircon. The bathrooms needed a bit of sprucing tho. however due to the noise from the on roof equipment (we were on floor 5) we did ask for a change of rooms after a few days. The staff were very helpful and managed to rehome us with 2 rooms together again. The new rooms were much smaller but decor was good obviously some work had been done here.
Generally the staff were very friendly if you took the time to be nice to them (the rudest people were the other holiday makers) The food was excellent, well cooked and a choice of 3 mains each day (if anyone complians about the food they must be very fussy or possibly a non fish eating veggie), the hotel public areas including the pool were kept very clean, and the cleaners were good in the rooms too. The entertainment was steered at the somewhat older generation and a little cheesy. We had several wonderful massages from Lian (tucked in a space near the indoor pool!) Disabled access was also good.
I would say though that although the bedding was clean it really could have been in a better state of repair and in our second rooms the sheets were not big enough to stay tucked in! This Over all a good Holiday

Room Tip: avoid floor 5, although rooms that side are bigger. If you are disabled you would need to check you...

We stayed with 2 friends for 2 weeks from the 24th September. When we got there our room wasn't ready so we went to our friends room to leave our cases. Like us they had booked a superior room through Thomas Cook. The room did have air con and a fridge but was quite small with only a shower which was tiny. When we got our room they came with us and when they saw the size of our room which was quite big but only has 2 single beds, a fridge, air con and a bath with shower over plus a side sea view we were very pleased with. Our friends went down to reception and explained to the receptionist and were offered another room straight away which was on the corner which was massive it had a king size bed and a single bed ,air con, fridge and bath with shower over.
I have to say that the food at the hotel was very good indeed I can't understand anyone who says differently. There was home made soup every day, a pasta dish which was always very tasty and 2 meat dishes which came with a lovely sauce or gravy (they did spare ribs twice while we were there and I have to say they were some of the best I have ever had)
and a fish dish, then there was the salad bar which I ate from every day and was very nice. There was always potatoes cooked in various ways but not chips all that often which some people might not like. The desserts consisted of various gateaus, cheese and biscuits every night and some night fresh fruit as well, what more do people want for their money?
We never had any trouble with sunbeds there was always plenty and they had soft mattresses on them and the pool was lovely I went in every day sometimes there was only me and my friend in it.
The staff were all friendly and we had no problems with any of them and would like to mention in particular Shawn and the chef in the dining room and Chris at the bar.
With regard to the entertainment we didn't have a problem with it and there was only karaoke one night a week which we didn't stay in for but the rest was quite good and Saturday nights we thought were very good the Maltese singer Renato was a good entertainer. The only small gripe I have is I wish they would get some softer pillows and mattresses as these were rock hard but didn't spoil our holiday.

All in all a very nice holiday and next time we come to Malta we will stay at the San Pawl.

Room Tip: We had room 1068 which faced onto a side road with a side sea view and we had no problem with noise...

stayed at hotel from 24sept for 2 weeks, arrived and was given the dreaded 318 room next to the lift. Paid for upgrade,180 euros. Nice pool and pool bar(Chris was great) as were most of the staff. Very easy to get a sunbed, no stress. Food was very good for what we paid. All in all a very nice relaxed hotel. We will be coming back to Malta as we loved it.

Room Tip: go for a superior room

Another great holiday in Malta in September & our 5/6th stay at the fabulous San Pawl Hotel. This hotel has nice rooms, many of which we have stayed in! Maid service everyday with fresh towels & bed sheets changed frequently. Lovely food, great pool & sunbed area, plus pool bar with night time entertainment. Hotel management are friendly & approachable - should you have the need to, plus staff are nice & friendly too. We have recommended this hotel to our friends....Looking forward to our next stay!! :-D Pat & Mike G

First time in malta so not sure what expect.

This hotel was lovely, in a prime location and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The food is plenty and there's lots of choice and the dining hours are long, to accommodate everyone.
I don't think it matters which room you have, either outside or inside, the rhythm going to get you, it's Malta and there is entertainment 20 hours per day, just go with it! I was humming 'Spanish eyes' or some thing similar on the way home......and still doing so.

Beware, the ladies who steal toast. Breakfast can be a wicked time. Little 'ol ladies who won't strive (wait) for toast (they have truthfully entered the toast chamber) will steal yours, it's only when they realise yours is wholemeal they fess up! This hotel is full of them,......... or is it just the breakfast dames. San pawl is lovely, shame about the guests (toast ladies).

My only gripe was the flies, but obviously the were just being flies.

Lots to see, turn right out of the hotel and walk 2 mins to the bus stop and which ever comes first jump on it. Beaches to the right history to the left. But beware the big fella who herds his family in the coach before you, don't be british and queue or you will be there all day.

We have just returned from our holiday at the san pawl , our room was very nice large a/c spotless the food was very good , lovely pool some other guests complained that the standard room were very small no air con so I would suggest to book a superior room the jester bar and ziggys opposite were very good and champagne bar with entertain ment twice a week was very friendly. Itis just a 10 minuite walk to the sqaure with a good choice of bars and restaurents trips are cheap to book in the shop opposite hotel malta by night with the malta experience was very good and the buses are easy to use with an all day ticket for 2.60 euros overall a very enjoyable holiday

Room Tip: Book superior room
