“Comming home to ski in Monterosa Aerea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

The hotel amenities are above expatiations for e 3 star. New structure, very clear and well kept small hotel. Wellness area is pleasant and spacious. Ski lift easy to reach, also when coming back from the slopes (perhaps not for a 1st time skiier, but the whole Monterosa aerea is not the best for 1st timers in my opinion).
What really sets this place apart is the hospitality of the owner(s). They bent over backwards to make me, and my family, have a good and enjoyable time. No different than I would receive guests at my home. Very rare for a hotel though.
We felt very welcome at 'de Gletscher', and will come back the next time.

We enjoyed a truly wonderful week with our hosts Francesca and Marcello at Hotel de Gletscher. The hotel has all the modern luxuries (from a modern luxurious Spa to free wifi everywhere for multiple devices), but feels like a warm, friendly and cosy home in the snowy mountains of beautifull Gressoney-la-Trinite in the Italian Alps. Beautiful spacious rooms (we had a family-room and had enough room for ourselves and our 2 teenage kids), with balconies on the sun-side (for non-skiers who want to relax and sunbathe from 11.00 till 16.30), very friendly service and a brilliant chef who surprised us very might with great dishes. The area is lovely with wonderful broad and different slopes, hardly any waiting at the ski-lifts, and very reasonable prices for everything. Forget about Austria or Switzerland, come enjoy the Italian way of enjoying snow and sports. (But please do not come with too many.. we plan to come back and enjoy this many more times !)

Room Tip: Almost all rooms have a lovely balcony. Make sure you ask for one of them !

I shouldn't really be writing a hotel review, because they should be unbiased. And I feel very biased towards this one! I'm lucky enough to have travelled all over the world on business, with my wife, and with my family. But we're even luckier to have found this hotel, and the family who run it.

If you're an independent traveller who doesn't enjoy being herded around on a package holiday, appreciates where you are and with whom you're staying, relishes deserted ski slopes in immaculate condition (and untracked offpiste days after the last snowfall), then you really should look no further.

This is a wonderful little hotel in an amazing region. Your hosts, for whom absolutley nothing is too much trouble, will ensure you are treated like houseguests not a credit card. And if you're lucky enough to be staying when the hotel is not too busy as we were (UK half term in this case!) then if you don't want to eat in (food is not served every evening) you'll be chauffeur-driven by Francesca or her 'blue collar worker' Marcello to a recommended restaurant in the valley. Our only negative comment could possible be that gressoney and Stafal were just a little too quiet, especially with a pair of teenagers in tow. But that's really looking hard for a fault.....

Our two rooms had large wooden balconies overlooking the head of the valley and were extremely comfortable, with top quality duvets and bedlinen, plenty of space and (very important in often over-heated Alpine hotels) easy-to-adjust-by-electronics-for-idiots-like-me room temperature.

We had an awesome week skiing, ate some fabulous food, drank superb wines, and generally had a wonderful time. But what we'll remember most is the generosity of spirit and genuine thoughfulness of our hosts Francesca and Marcello. It felt like we were staying in their home, not in a hotel, and that they were so happy to share this wonderful place with us.

Room Tip: Make sure you reserve a room with a balcony

We stayed here 1 week for a freeride trip in the Monterosa mountains. The hotel owner helped us to find a room nearby for our guide when the hotel was fully booked. The rooms are large and very comfortable, the sauna is beautiful decorated and your muscles will enjoy the turkish bath after a long day in the mountains. The father of the owner (74) enjoys cooking and the merende (dinner) is informal, but of very high quality. We organised a beer tasting in the bar together with the owners and the rest of the Italian guest. It has been a long time I have experienced this king of friendliness and service in Europe. We will definitely return here to ski the numerous off piste routes and there will be no question where we will stay.

More than my father (who enjoyed so much your comment since He’s 78 vs 74 years old) I personally enjoyed so much your comments those are a real “honey-touch” to all of the efforts we try providing to our guests stay. Thanks for all and looking forward to your next Monterosa trip.
