Owner description: A cooking lesson, an excursion into stunning countrysides, a great day out with locals… a Wild Foods Gastronomical Adventure is something you’ll never forget. You”ll spend a day in the company of real Italians, fully immersing yourself into true Italian culture. Guided by one of the local Chiacchiarini family on their farm we take to the beautiful Umbrian countryside in search of any number of traditional ‘wild’ delicacies, whatever’s in abundance depending on the season. When we have enough for lunch -truffles, mushrooms, wild asparagus - it's back to the farmhouse for a cooking lesson and a big traditional lunch with the family and local friends and loads of fantastic Montefalco wine.

“The Velvet Cannons visit the Montefalco Mob”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

If you have a free day in Umbria a day spent with the Montefalco Mob is a must. We were a group of 12 who hired a mini bus from our Villa in Tuscany. It was a 2 hour drive to Montefalco and well worth the journey, Mac, Francesca and everyone in the family welcomed us with open arms and we got to see first hand the way they live and work their farm from hunting for truffles to making pasta and enjoying a long lunch including beautiful home grown food and wine under the shade of the trees. Dante was the perfect host and won a place in all our hearts.
Thankyou so much for the best day ever!!

“amazing day in Umbrian countryside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Or family spent the day with Mac and Francesca and their extended family and friends in June. We had a perfect sunny day. We were picked up in Spello and drove way up into the mountains to their farm and home. We then went truffle hunting and had a picnic in the forest. Our kids 12 + 9 years old had a super fun time. Back at the farmhouse we had an amazing meal in the garden. Grandma made fresh pasta while the fire grilled up delicious bbq. The hospitality was fantastic, very laid back and relaxed. This is a perfect day if you want to take a break from your 'city' travels and breath real fresh air and have a glass of wine in the country and get some real Umbrian food in your belly. thanks Mac and Francesca so much for such a special day full of memories!

“Wonderful truffle hunt and italian family experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

I have always wanted to go truffle hunting in the Italian woods. The day with the Montefalco Mob exceeded our expectations. It was a pleasure to spend such a relaxing day with great people (and dogs) and wonderful food and wine.
The morning was spent in the beech woods high in the mountains searching for truffles and fungi with Lucca and his dogs. Then we stopped for home made pecorino, prosecco and truffle omelette (cooked in a field by Lucca).
Then back to the farm for pasta making lesson from Nonna accompanied by bruschetta, cold meats, farro and red wine. Then on to a divine lunch of pasta, duck, meats, beans and dessert accompanied by more wine and passito.
Our host Mac and his lovely wife, family, friends and neighbours made a great day absolutely memorable - we can't thank them enough. This is what enjoying real Italy is all about.

“A Wonderful Experience..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

In Umbria, Italy, there is a great valley sourrounded with high mountains, peaks of the Apennines which for the "backbone" of Italy. In this valley are the great medieval towns of Perugia to the north, Assisi in the centre and Spoleto to the south as well as many other beautiful and historic fortified towns and villages dotted along the mountains and also on the floor of the valley. One of these lovely medieval towns is Terni and, above it, rises a great mountain near the top of which "Wild Food" is to be had together with the adventure of hunting for truffles, eating on the mountain top, helping make traditional pasta and then eating it together with a wonderful truffle sauce followed by stuffed duck and string beans and then sausages and pork spare ribs with a salad followed by the sort of Umbrian trifle. All this was accompanied by a beautiful local red wine from nearby vineyards. The trip was organised by "Wild Foods Gastronomical Adventure" led by Mac, his wife, Francesca, members of theirextended family and friends. Four-wheel Drive vehicles took us "diners" high up the mountain where, with the aid of truffle "hounds" and people who knew what they were doing, the secretive fungi were sniffed out and dug up by the dogs. We followed the hunt through oak and beeck woods. After that the "safari" proceeded above the tree-line to the very mountain tops where Mac and Francesca and family run sheep in the summer monthsfor milking to make the wonderful Umbrian pecorino cheese. The hillsides are covered with white lmestone screes but there's plenty of pasture for the sheep as well as charolais-cross beef cattle which sat placidly by while ate our "Wild Food" of scrambles eggs with truffles and beautiful aged pecorino cheese from the sheep of the mountain top. This was accompanied with Prosecca which tasted even better in the fresh, cool alpine air. After that we descended to the farm "village" for the rest of the feast. This was an unforgettable day. Try it.

“Prosecco, Truffles, Pasta - couldn't be better!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

You should do this!!! Well organized on all facets. We were picked up and delivered into the mountains above Trevi. As we watched Nonna start the pasta making we enjoyed Prosecco and some new friends then took a turn to knead. Next it was off to trek through the countryside to (hopefully) find truffles - we only found one. Hopping into the back of the pick-up with Dante for what I thought was a 'scenic route' return to the farm turned into an off road excursion to a site higher above the Umbrian valley where we enjoyed scambled farm fresh eggs with shaved black truffle, 5 month old cheese made by the family, and Prosecco! Then back to the farmhouse to help roll and cut the pasta then sit and enjoy a true Umbrian feast!
Mac, Francesca, Nonna and the other family members and neighbors were friendly, fun, and very accommodating. It was very interesting and eye-opening to see how this group lived and worked (hard) together in semi-isolation as a 'family'. On this day though, they were intent on our comfort with each playing a part - whether to cook, serve, answer questions, pour more wine or just to stand and talk.
This was a great experience and one that we will do again!
Grazie mille to the Montefalco Mob!! And to my new friend Dante - Ciao!!
