“Elegant hotel in Tuscan countryside”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2012

The Palazzo Mannaioni is a newly refurbished and extended hotel in a great setting within a small Tuscan hill top town with fabulous countryside views. Montaione is centrally located in Tuscany but Tuscan roads are quite poor so if you're intending to tour the great cities you might be better off staying closer to the Autostrada. However the town has some charm and a couple of good and very reasonably priced restaurants: Carpe Diem with views over the valley and Osteria Del Pesco Rosso which is very homely. The pizzas in Carpe Diem were the best we had on our holiday, just perfect. The hotel restaurant itself is better still and offers a more formal dining experience. Breakfast is a pleasant affair typical to good Italian hotels but with, most importantly, proper Espresso. Hotel service and friendliness was particularly good. We booked a room just before high season and the pool was chiuso. Since we wanted a swim we were directed to the Esseclub fitness club in Empoli, about 45 mins drive away. This was a great find, really friendly and well equipped, I don't think they see many tourists. We went twice! You can park for free near the hotel but the underground car park you have to pay for is more convenient. Bedrooms are nicely decorated but small and most lack baths.

Room Tip: Rooms are ever so slightly disappointing at Palazzo Mannaioni. We booked a Junior Suite which turned...

Very central location. Dedicated car park for a small fee. We stayed in the NEW section. Beautiful. Breakfast a treat. Future travellers, take note! I only hope that I have the opportunity to stay at this hotel again!

Spent four nights. Great location. Staff very helpful. Classical music softly in the background of the foyer and bar. Restaurant is beautiful, although we just had breakfast there. Typical charming Italian hill town. Great view from the main square park. Fabulous fish (pesci) restaurant. Able to travel easily throughout the region; Spoleto, Norcia, Montefalco and Trevi to name a few. Hopping little bar in the main square with a fabulous happy hour. Buy a drink and munch on all sorts of Italian goodies.

Room Tip: Front rooms face the street and early morning trucks can be loud. But generally a sleepy town.

We spent a long weekend here and loved it. We didn't spend a great deal of time in the hotel but the room was great, clean and quite luxurious. The hotel looks lovely and interesting and the staff were super helpful in giving us advice on where to go etc. we only ate breakfast at the hotel and it was very tasty. The only slight disappointment was the pool was not open. It was early season but happened to be very warm and a dip would have been nice. It looked beautiful though.

The surrounding areas is amazing and a car is an absolute must to get around. We we to lots of places, including Florence, monteriggione, San gimignano, castella in chianti, radda in chianti, Siena. All well worth a visit.

We absolutely loved this hotel which not only had a beautiful pool (with bar service), great rooms and fantastic service but it is located in a tiny town on a hill overlooking Tuscan surroundings. Everything in this hotel is perfect, the staff is welcoming and extremely helpful, the area is peaceful and gorgeous, what else could you ask for. For those of you who do choose to stay there, when you decide to leave poolside to break for lunch, simply walk down the street to the "convenience store" to enjoy some of the best pizza ever, homemade, simple, delicious. One tip though, if you are looking for an area with alot of action or nighttime attractions, i'd choose elsewhere, this is for relaxation and beauty. Enjoy!

We will most definitely be making a trip back to Tuscany JUST to stay at this hotel. The staff were outstanding ... so VERY warm and welcome. We were put in the new section of the hotel (still being built in fact as we were the only ones on our floor and there was drywall dust around in the hallways, but it truly didn't matter!) The accommodations were absolutely LOVELY. The pool was immaculately clean. The meals fantastic. Again, the staff ... just can't say enough about them. It was difficult to leave. The countryside is beautiful. Loved walking around the very OLD town... so very quaint and picturesque. We'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the new section.

Last Christmas I received a coffee table book on beautiful Tuscan towns. I selected Mannaioni as one of the towns I would visit during my recent two week stay. I searched Trip Advisor to see if anyone had stayed in the town. One of the contributors wrote a great review of the Mannaioni. I gave the name of the hotel to my travel agent, Approved Travel in Colonia, NJ and they made all the arrangements through a company in Boston, Bella Vista Tours.

I can't even begin to describe what a wonderful experience we had. The hotel sits within the walls of a very small town. We were greeted by the Manager, who speaks excellent English, with a very warm and welcoming demeanor. He upgraded our room to a suite, which had a balcony with a beautiful view of the Tuscan hills. The restaurant was outstanding, both for dinner and breakfast (breakfast was included with the room). The property itself is clean and beautifully decorated. They've anticipated every traveller's needs and your safety and comfort is guaranteed. The bar is comfortable and relaxing and they provide "munchies" to go along with your drinks.

The location of the town is also excellent. From there, it's less than a 30 minute very well marked ride to San Gimignano, one of the most outstanding tourist sites in Italy. I highly recommened this hotel.

Room Tip: Get the two floor suite. Comfortable reading and relaxation area with a gorgeous view
