My now husband and I chose the Villa Belvedere as our main guest accommodation for our wedding party in June; we were married on June 6th in the nearby Castello Il Palagio.
I really cannot state strongly enough how wonderful the place is- or how kind and helpful the staff are. The main villa has a magical setting, perched on a hillside with the most sensational views- which you can enjoy from the grass terrace at the main villa, the swimming pool, or from one of the many apartment terraces. The accommodation is traditionally Tuscan- basic but elegant, clean and spacious, and the grounds are simply breathtaking. It’s about 40 minutes from Florence, and 30 from Sienna.
It's worth knowing that this place is not a luxury hotel- and the facilities are limited (it is after all a very old rustic farmhouse), and the breakfast is quite basic; that said, for us this all added to its undeniable charm. They also don’t have a restaurant as such so you need a car.
As far as the service goes- every person we dealt with went out of their way to ensure that we and our guests had the best time- nothing was too much trouble and we were looked after with great care, humour and personal attention. On the Friday night we had a BBQ for all of our guests (approx 60), and despite the threat of bad weather we had the most wonderful evening- which was made possible not only because of the simply sensational catering- but because of the Belvedere team doing everything in their power to make sure we had nothing to worry about.
Whether you’re looking for romantic destination for two (in which case ask to stay in the main villa), or you’re planning a group or family holiday- I cannot imagine a better place. And finally, if you go at the end of May/start of June, it's highly likely that at night you will find yourselves surrounded by fireflies…as if this place needed any more magic!
