We stayed at the Residenza d'Arte for 2 nights on our recent trip to Italy, a trip during which we traveled for a 9 days and then capped it by getting married in Assisi. We stayed here for the 3rd and 4th nights of our trip; having come from beautiful but hectic Florence, it was a wonderful respite from the city.
I won't repeat the details of the property that are throughout these reviews, except to say that it is beautiful, peaceful, unique, and the pictures on their website actually understate the beauty.
We stayed in a smaller room, the Van Gogh, and we agreed after leaving that if we ever have the good fortune to return, we'll stay in a larger room or suite. Not because the room was small - it was a completely reasonable size, with an average tiny Italian bathroom - but because we loved it so much we think it would be well worth spending extra for a larger room.
The hosts while we were there - father and daughter - are lovely, and we enjoyed chatting with them. My husband especially enjoyed hearing about the father's road trip across the US years ago. We also enjoyed their dogs, given that we were missing ours.
Our hosts gave us wonderful dinner recommendations; our favorite was a small establishment in nearby Sinalunga. It's a small family run place, and none of the lovely little old Italian ladies serving spoke English. We continue to talk about how wonderful that meal was, not just because of the food, but because of the experience.
If you do stay here, I have two recommendations/suggestions:
1) Take a early evening walk through Torrita di Siena, especially on a day after touring the popular towns in the region. The exceptional quietness in comparison provides a beauty of its own.
2) This B&B is in an old stone building without a lot of rugs, etc. Sound travels. Our second night we had a good giggle over the couple in the room across the common area who, needless to say, had a very active night. If you're a private person, keep that in mind when engaging in intimate aerobics.
To sum up, we loved this place, and would go back in a heartbeat.
