I dont think anyone in Richmond that owns these "gelato" shops have actually had real gelato. This was a poor imitation of an Italian specialty. It doesnt matter that you have a bunch of different flavors that imitate gelato, its still ice cream if you arent using raw egg. This is where the special texture of real gelato comes from. I can only assume that they are all afraid of getting people sick but when properly controlled there shouldnt be any issues.
If you want expensive ice cream, come here. Italians looking for authenticity, stay away.
