This cemetery is so full of history: Presidents' graves, and their families; Confederate leaders and their families, and so many others. Because of the extent of the cemetery (it now exceeds 140 acres) and all the interesting information, it is advisable to take a guided tour. Because of the heat and the fact that we'd already walked all over the city of Richmond (and its many hills!) for the previous 3 days, & were on our "last legs," we chose the trolley tour. That was a lifesaver for us, however, the guide was difficult to understand, and her knowledge was sometimes spotty. There was also another guide offering 2-hour walking tours, which might have been better to take, had we been up to the lengthy walk, however, I can't imagine us being able to cover all the areas that we did on the trolley. We loved the historical aspect of this very unique place, and recommend the Hollywood Cemetery, just bring comfortable shoes, lots of energy, and drinking water. PS: Lots of hills, walking, etc so I don't recco. walkers, wheelchairs, or strollers.
