Owner description: Maymont is a 100-acre American estate, an extraordinary gift given to us by James and Sallie Dooley who lived here from 1893 to 1925. Whether strolling in the gardens, touring the mansion or watching river otters play, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

“Beautiful gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

We really didn't have enough time to walk everywhere but the park is beautiful & peaceful. The Italian garden is gorgeous with the pillars, waterfall, roses & pergolas. We had a beautiful day to just wander around . We went on a Friday afternoon, it wasn't crowded, it wasn't too hot & we got to see a bit of a wedding rehearsal that we assumed was going on the next day. The Japanese garden was nice with the big pond filled with large koi, they seemed to think we were going to feed them because they followed us around. The Japanese garden had a very nice waterfall that you can get up close to, but don't get too close the rocks can be slippery. You really need about 4 hours or so to really enjoy the park. There is plenty of open space to possibly have a picnic. There are some animal exhibits but we were there late so I think that they were already closed. Mother Nature at its best.

“Lots of space to run, walk, fly a kite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

Take a picnic lunch, walk around and check out the gardens, then go fly your kite. This place is fantastic.

“Great place for Kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

Lots to see and do but wear your walking shoes! The Japanese gardens and ponds are gorgeous. We have been several times of the year and Spring and Fall are excellent. Great animal exhibits and the petting zoo is fun for the little ones. The Environmental center is worth the trip and the mansion tour is great, at least for adults (may be a little boring for younger kids).

“Nice gardens and landscaping”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

An excellent spot to visit to relax or to walk the grounds or to visit their displays. Our little group's youngest was 11 and the oldest 72 and we all enjoyed it greatly.

“Nice and Clean!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

Being in place it is, you would expect less from here but once you get past all the shady things at the entrance and around it, the park itself is beautiful. Historic sites...flowers...you name it. It was a nice getaway for us as a couple to relax and just get outdoors. Weather did help but overall, we had a fun experience here. Great day to spend labor day!
