Owner description: Maymont is a 100-acre American estate, an extraordinary gift given to us by James and Sallie Dooley who lived here from 1893 to 1925. Whether strolling in the gardens, touring the mansion or watching river otters play, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

“Both the grounds and the house are worth seeing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

What a gem! The grounds are open to the public (donations are suggested) -- flower gardens, a view of the river, a Japanese garden, a children's zoo. The house itself is beautiful and well worth taking the tour. All the wild animals kept on the grounds, including bears, birds of prey, and a bobcat, are rescued animals. Both my kids and my wife and I enjoy visiting Maymont.

“Wide open spaces”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

Great for family fun in the Children's Farm feeding barnyard animals. Beautiful vistas. Recommend entering from the Spottswood entrance, close to the Farm. The Park is criss-crossed with small streams that were so much fun for our kids.

“Nothing short of perfect.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

We go here about once every few months. There's something for everyone and it's free. What's not fantastic about that? There's a petting farm for little kids, Japanese gardens where you can hop across a pond while looking at giant koi fish, Italian gardens where many people get married, Dooley mansion- famous for it's Swan shaped bed, Nature Center, lush lawns and gardens for picnicking. Fantastic place to go for anyone.

“Japanese Garden is wonderful!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

I could spend all afternoon feeding the Koi, strolling on the paths, and people watching in the Japanese garden! What an oasis in the middle of Richmond!

“Pretty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

The Mansion tour is donation only for $5.00.
Very pretty mansion which gives you an introduction of the period in Virgina. Very well preserved.
Once you park the car, have to walk through the ground to get to the mansion.
