“Better than average but not quite very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

enjoyed dinner with a large group of friends. food was very good and the wine selection was great. chicken flatbread appetizer was delicious! if you like beets you'll love the beets and candied walnut salad however i learned i do not care for beets but was still able to enjoy the salad (just pushed them off to the side), salad was perfectly dressed not too heavy but not too light either. while the crab bisque started out quite tasty half way through the good sized bowl it got very salty by the end i couldn't finish it because of the heavy salt taste. service was a tad slow guessing this had more to do with the size of our party than anything else however 2 dinner guests ordered beer and the waitress did forget them (she had to be reminded). would go back but probably will not have the crab bisque.

“go somewhere else”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

i would not recommend this restaurant unless you want bad service and a serving of nasty attitude from the owner, kitchen staff and host. the food is okay but if i'm going to spend my money, there are so many other wonderful places to eat without the nastiness that i've encountered, not once, but 3 times! every time i've gone in there, the place is completely empty- that's got to tell you something, especially on weekends, day or night. i can see why now. i don't expect this place to make it.
each time i've gone, i've called to check to make sure they're open as the hours say on their website. they say yes, i say i'm on my way. i get there and they don't want to work. they say they decided to close early since they weren't busy. i say i drove 20 min's to have a sandwich which they can't possibly make b/c the kitchen is now closed. meanwhile, the kitchen staff are all standing around like idiots. the host dude is the rudest restaurant "host" i've ever met. the 2nd visit i did manage to get food but it was not a pleasant experience. it's as if they don't want customers and they're getting their wish because i will never go back. it's aggravating and i go out to have fun not to deal with their prickly attitudes.

“Hidden gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013 via mobile

We had the most marvelous brunch! The shrimp with cheese grits and tomato knocked my socks off. My colleagues had the hash and eggs Benedict. Both of them raved. The credit card machine was on the fritz (connectivity) but they handled the situation perfectly. It is "hidden" in a new section on the James River called Rocketts Landing, just beyond Churchill.

“Dinner then went back for Brunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

Absolutely delicious is all I can say! We enjoyed our dinner of Ahi tuna last night so much we went back for brunch this morning and were not disappointed. I had the shrimp and grits and it was by far the best shrimp and grits I have ever had. My wife had the three cheese omelet and it was very good. You can't beat the food and the ambience is nice as well. Our waiter, John, was excellent. You won't regret a meal at this restaurant. We have eaten at both Conch Republic and the Boathouse at Rockett's Landing and while both were good, M Bistro is much better. The cost of our meal for what we got was outstanding! I had coffee and my wife had a mimosa plus our food totaled $36. You must try this restaurant if you haven't already.
