Overall the stay was ok.

I was disappointed in the upkeep and cleanliness of the property. Some simple, relatively inexpensive steps would help ensure that customers get a better impression. The ceiling in the kitchen was dirty and full of cobwebs over the refrigerator. The bathroom walls had numerous dirty spots and the toilet seat was scratched. In addition the grass around the building was long, the dumpster area was over flowing and there was broken glass in some of the parking spaces. None of these things alone are a huge deal but it gave the impression that the workers / management were not paying attention to the impression that customers got when they pulled up and then entered their room. It was also odd that our one room had a mattress encasement and the other did not.

In addition, the doors at the two ends of the building did not work with the key cards after hours when we had to take the dogs out. This meant we had to walk around the building to the center entryways at 2 AM.

The male clerk that greeted us on our arrival could have used a course in customer service / friendliness. However, the male clerk on days was very nice and the elderly black man who appeared to be a maintenance type person was very nice.

We appreciated that the hotel was pet friendly.

The area in which the hotel is located is questionable. There were other customers who were a little creepy, which obviously the hotel can not control. Basically most of the customers seemed to be work crews, not tourist or families.

There are a couple restaurants close but no where I would eat (e.g. Subway, McDonalds and the Holiday Inn).

There is no one on duty after 11 PM and no breakfast which were unknown to us until we checked-in. They did have a "pantry" where you could buy soda, etc. but it was expensive. In addition, they only clean the rooms once per week so if you need clean towels, TP, garbage can bags, etc., you have to go to the front desk.

The other reviews I read did not fit my experience but my expectations regarding cleanliness and appearances are pretty high.

My husband and I relocated to Va. due to his job relocation and we Stayed at Candlewood Suites until we could find housing. It was a wonderful place to stay everyone of the staff members were so friendly and courtious. The place was very clean the grounds outside the inside as well as the guest suites. They were very clean and well stocked. It is very conviently located right off the 95 and close to shopping etc. I would reccomend this place to anyone traveling to or staying in this area. I will stay candlewood Suites when I need a place to stay for long periods or even just overnight. Plus the fact that they have free laundry is a BIG bonus.

Management and staff are super friendly. The rooms are impressive. Very clean, comfortable bedding. Kitchenette has plenty of room and a dishwasher. Laundry facility could use abit of help but it's free. Right off 95 and convenient to all areas. Best hotel I've stayed in so far and we travel for work 9 months out of the year. Well worth the money

Had a great stay Saturday night. We are traveling home from Key West and this is our second Candlewood in the past two days. Walked in without a reservation and was assisted with a friendly and helpful gentlemen at the front desk. He offered dinner suggestions when asked and arranged a taxi there. The room was comfortable and a good value. The area was quiet – not much traffic noise – and we got a great night sleep. No breakfast offered, but the room does have a kitchen and select breakfast items were available for purchase. We would recommend this hotel as your stop when traveling through the Richmond area.
