My daughter and I stayed there for a lacrosse tournament over the weekend. We originally had another hotel booked but when I read the reviews , we changed. I must have tried the Hyatt 10 times and they were always booked. Finally one day I checked and they had a King studio suite open.
I was hesitant about this hotel because it was attached to the mall and I thought the traffic would be a nightmare. We got in Friday night late. It was very nice from the outside and I found parking close to the hotel. Free parking I might add.
I walked in and the hotel lobby was hopping. Apparently there was also going to be a wedding the next day in the hotel and also lots of lax players. I went up to the front desk and was greeted by a friendly woman whose name I wished I had asked. She was so pleasant and I talked to her multiple times during my stay. She explained everything about the hotel and we went to our room.
The room was very clean and very nice. It had a king bed with very comfortable pillows. It also had a huge tv which swiveled so you could see it while you were in the little kitchenette or in the bed. There was a couch with ottoman. This might have been a pull out couch but I am not sure.
The kitchenette had a little counter top stove, microwave and bigger refrigerator. This was so nice to be able to keep all the drinks we had for the tournament. My daughter also used the stove to boil water for her mouthguard. In the cabinets were plates, pots, glasses and silverware. There was also a small little dishwasher.
The one thing that was strange was the bathroom. Next to where the bed was a little area with a sink , countertop and the closet. The vanity had a lit makeup mirror which was pretty cool. They also provide a hair dryer. Little bottles of shampoo, and conditioner were on the counter although I am not sure what brand. I have never heard of it.
Then next to the vanity is the bathroom. It has a slider door . You just slide it closed but it doesn't lock or anything. It was weird and just didn't feel private. In the bathroom was a big shower with no door. It was half open and the other half was enclosed . So basically you walk into the shower. Again, kind of strange. You felt very "out there" while taking a shower. You face the slider door and it's all open so if someone walked in, well there is no where to hide. They will see you in all your glory. Plus the water kept getting on the floor because there was nothing to stop it from splashing out. The shower had pumps on it with shower gel and shampoo/conditioner. The shower floor were small tiles and it was kind of slippery.
The beds were very comfortable. I did my bed bug check and didn't find anything or any residue...thank goodness. The only other complaint I would have is the tv. They have Hbo and all the normal channels but there wasn't a movie channel which was disappointing because we couldn't find anything to watch.
This hotel offers complimentary wifi. This was awesome and I don't understand why all hotels dont do this. The breakfast on the weekend was offered from 7-10. My daughter had an early game in Midlothian , so we couldn't eat until we got back. We thought for sure by 9:30 most of the breakfast would be picked over. Not so. There was plenty of breakfast and it was a good one for being complimentary. We had scrambled eggs, potatoes(which were really good), pancakes, fruit, coffee, juice, muffins, donuts, canadian bacon. It was very good and we brought it back to our rooms. There was also an omelette station!
We had used a couple plates from the night before(had a quick dinner) and I put them in the dishwasher to run it later. We had another game to get too. I put the "please make my room" hanger on the door and off we went. We came back and the room was clean and they even ran the dishwasher for me.
There were so many people in this hotel. I was talking to the front desk lady who told me there was a big wedding in the hotel..which is why the bar area was hopping when we came in. We didn't hear anyone at night. With all those kids and a wedding , I thought for sure it would be loud. I also thought it would be very loud outside since it is in the mall area. Nope. All I could hear was a door closing once in awhile. We were on the second floor.
The area itself is great. You will not want for food or shopping. The Hyatt house was attached to the double decker Dicks Sporting Goods which was great for us as my daughter needed a mouth guard. We walked around in the mall area for a bit but didn't get to spend too much time there. We will spend more time in the area next time we come. The traffic wasn't horrendous for a mall either. I found a parking spot everytime I came back to the hotel.
It was a wonderful stay and a very clean hotel.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such an amazing review about your past weekend here at the hotel! I am so happy to hear that despite having a full hotel with many things going on, you still had a great stay with no complaints. We are aware of the concerns with the shower and have been looking into a solution. I really enjoyed reading all of your comments and again can't thank you enough for briefly touching on all areas. Thank you again for choosing Hyatt House Richmond West. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
