“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

I stayed there for two nights, when I visited Richmond for a conference. The hotel is in walking distance from the Greater Richmond Conference Center. Clean rooms, renovated bathroom. There is no fridge. You have to pay valet parking. $12 per day. Nearby parking lots are more expensive. Free wi-fi. Pretty good for its price.

Linden Row Inn consists of an historic brick and frame 5 story main structure and several brick carriage houses in the rear cobblestone garden/seating area. Built after the Civil War and restored in the 1980's, the Inn provides a quiet, friendly and quite different place to stay. We stayed in one of the carriage houses which is very nicely furnished (with a real non-working fireplace.) Some of the rooms and salons in the main house are furnished with antiques. The whole place gives you a sense of living in history. Moderately priced, it is out of the busy Downtown/Shockoe area but just a few blocks away from the night life. Virginia Commonwealth University is nearby. We found some great restaurants within walking distance on Grace and Broad Streets. The staff is very friendly and gave us discount coupons for a restaurant down the street. Parking is free on the street after 4 PM, but valet service is $12.00/night. A free continental breakfast is served which was adequate. Although very nice, the Inn will probably be needing a spruce-up in the near future.

I cannot say enough good things about Linden Row. We've stayed here many times over the last 5 years and have always had a wonderful experience. The rooms are cozy and clean, the service is great and the location is perfect. The free shuttle is a major plus, especially if the weather is sketchy. Don't miss walking 2 blocks to Tarrants cafe...food, ambiance, and service is amazing

Room Tip: We love the courtyard rooms. They are small but so charming and quiet

We showed up in the late evening after having made a reservation only a few hours in advance. This was a spontaneous plan, and luckily, the Linden Inn had an available room. When we arrived, the warm, cheerful lady at the reception desk gave us a huge room for the price of a smaller one, and discounted it, too. Needless to say, we were happy campers. She then helped us find a place that was open for a late dinner.
The room was large, and did have the charming, historic feel to it. The bed was super comfortable, the bathroom enormous. I can not attest to the quality of a smaller room that we would have gotten, but we were very happy with this one.
Breakfast was just OK, though, and the parking situation a bit odd. But the hotel staff helped figure that out and gave us some tips on where to park.
All in all, very minor gripes with the place. I'd certainly recommend it to anyone considering where to stay in Richmond.

I had a day and a half in Richmond so I wanted to enjoy the city. The reviews on TripAdvisor were good as was the location. Overall, it was no better than your typical holiday inn, in fact, pretty disappointing for a "charming historic inn."

Location: you are in the "center" of Richmond, which is a very odd little patchwork city. If you know where to go you can actually get something to eat/shop without driving and fighting crazy parking rules. There is no good parking around the hotel- I was lucky to get there on a Sunday so I could park my car outside. I didn't want to valet because you had to give them a "20 minute notice" before you needed your car and I wanted a bit more freedom. There is no official lot except for a pay one a few blocks away.

Room: Sad and dark. I was off the garden in a brick structure. It was cute. . . from the outside. Inside it looked like a very shabby room that had seen better days. It was so dark I felt like I was in a cave (maybe because there was only 1 window that opened onto the patio so I couldn't pull up the shades without compromising my privacy).

"Extras": while the website boasts coffee and tea service all day, the front desk did not point out this feature and I felt as if I was trespassing grabbing a tea bag. The agreement they have with the local YMCA doesn't help if you are there on a Sunday so there are no work out facilities (YMCA is closed). I was also rather disappointed I could not get a later check out.

Overall this wouldn't be a BAD choice for Richmond, but given the amount of cute B+B's I've stayed in and "historic" inns I have frequented, the rooms in this one leave a lot to be desired.

Room Tip: Try not to get a "garden" room. . . maybe it would be a little lighter if you don't ha...

Thank you for your detailed review of the Linden Row Inn. We are sorry to hear that some aspects of our historic property failed to meet expectations.

We appreciate your candid feedback on your room. Since our property was not originally constructed as a hotel, each room has its own unique layout. We encourage our guests to contact our Front Desk upon check-in if they are dissatisfied with their room as we are always happy to relocate guests if we have the availability.

We are also sorry to hear that some of our services and amenities fell short of expectations. In particular, we sincerely apologize for your experience with our Front Desk team. We strive to offer our guests the best in Southern hospitality, and so feedback such as yours is helpful as it allows us to understand areas for improvement. Needless to say, it pains us to hear that a guest felt unwelcome and so your experience will be incorporated into our team's ongoing training program.

We also apologize that the YMCA's fitness center was not open on Sunday eve. You are correct in that they do have limited hours on Sundays (12pm-6pm). However, they open their facilities at 5:30am from Monday thru Friday and are open from 7am-6pm on Saturdays.

We appreciate your constructive feedback on our services and amenities, and hope that you will consider staying with us on a future visit to Richmond.

History, hospitality and helpful staff made my friend's and my stay recently at The Linden Row Inn an exceptionally pleasant, enjoyable and relaxing experience. Our package included valet parking, free shuttle service on demand within two miles and a fabulous dinner at the 27 Bistro. The price was more than reasonable. The building is most unique and the room was immaculate, spacious and well-appointed. I can nt wait to retrn and thank everyone there for a truly wonderful time.

This is a very nice and quiet hotel in historic Richmond, VA. The decor is Civil War-era, but modern amenities abound, from AC to Wifi (yay!). My room was very large and comfortable and clean, the bed enormous and very welcoming. Front desk was warm and friendly, but one thing: make sure to get a map, one day one of the women told me to walk to Krogers when I asked for a nearby market: that's about a mile and a half! There are closer markets, so make sure your phone's GPS works and you have a map of the area.

That said, this was a very nice stay in an historic inn.

Thank you for your kind review of the Linden Row Inn. We appreciate your positive comments on our decor, services, and amenities. We do apologize for sending you on a 1.5 mile walk to Kroger as there are certainly some smaller convenience stores within shorter distance.
