“Great Hotel experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2012

I was here for a business meeting and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The hotel is really nicely decorated, the staff was friendly and helpful and the room was very comfortable. It is also convenient to places to eat if you aren't eating at the hotel. It is an upscale hotel which Richmond needed.

This is a solid property that ranks as one of the better choices in the Richmond-area. However, it is oddly situated and service is quite slow.

As has been noted, this is a new hotel and thus the rooms are in good condition. They vary in size and king rooms are significantly smaller than double rooms. My room faced the rear which included HVAC units below that made a good amount of white noise--too much.

The HD TV actually received HD, which is a plus and not always the case.

Bed was comfortable, as Westin Heavenly Beds usually are. This property has the secondary shower head shut off, supposedly for conservation reasons--you can turn it on manually to get the Heavenly Shower effect.

The hotel is literally located in the middle of the Altria corporate campus in Richmond. The immediate surrounding area is not especially nice. It seems like a very odd setting for a hotel of this caliber. The hotel is about 10 minutes from Short Pump, a large outdoor mall, and downtown Richmond.

My complaint has to do with service, which seemed overburdened and slow. My room service order was actually delivered by security and took an inordinate amount of time. This property simply needs to add more employees to truly be a 4 star caliber hotel.

Breakfast at the restaurant was well presented and reasonably quick. The setting of the restaurant was pleasant.

Overall, I would stay here again, but it certainly is not worth a special trip.

Dear MFLetou, thank you for your recent visit and for writing a positive review on our behalf. I am glad you enjoyed the hotel services and facilities overall. My apologies for the delay on your in room dining order...typically when our Security Officer is delivering these orders, it is after about 11pm which is when we are on a limited menu and overnight staffing. We strive to anticipate the volume of guests and corresponding services required so that we can facilitate your needs. I am sorry that we were not up to par on your recent stay to this regard. Your feedback is appreciated and welcomed to help us improve our consistency. Thank you again and we look forward to your return. Stay well, Feliks Schwartz - General Manager

I was in Richmond on business at a company headquartered near the Westin. I am originally from Richmond and had been curious about the hotel. It was very nice. My room was pleasant, clean, and large. The staff were very friendly and professional. The hotel is in a business park, so it was very quiet - despite being close to the interstate. I was in town with co-workers, and we enjoyed the bar. It has large TVs and comfortable couches. We also thought the breakfast was good. The location of the hotel is close to I-64 and is centrally located between the far West End and downtown. The drive downtown is approximately 15 minutes without traffic.

I would stay here again if in town on business and visiting a company that is located in or near the business park. The proximity to work is hard to beat, and the bar is a big plus with colleagues who want a nightcap. When I'm in town for leisure, I prefer other hotels nearby with similar quality that offer lower rates (but don't necessarily have a bar).

We have now stayed in quite a few hotels in the Richmond vicinity, as our daughter is a college student there. The Westin is our go-to hotel now, as it offers the perfect (for us) mix of quality, location and value. Immediately adjacent to an I-64 ramp and very easy to travel both to the UR campus and to downtown locales. The rooms are very comfortable and well-appointed, and we appreciate the availability of food/drinks/room service -- unlike other hotels in the vicinity.

This is the second year our group rents 65+ rooms for a three day weekend. We bring about 200 guests to stay during this weekend. Both times, we have tried to have meals in the on site restaurant in the evening only to be told that they either would not serve us because they close in 20 minutes or were treated poorly during the meal.

The management knew two months in advance of our arrival. I don't understand why they don't add a bit more staff in the food and beverage area to accommodate the large quantity of guests in for that weekend. We were at the Marriott downtown Richmond during lunch each day. They had anticipated the lunch rush by preparing a buffet as well as a limited menu.

We did speak to management last year and again this year. But didn't feel they cared. It's too bad.

The rooms are large, clean and the beds very comfortable. Just plan to eat and drink elsewehere.

Great overall experience. Felix and his team really have service dialed in. Each team interaction was positive; new rooms were spacious and comfortable; the breakfast was really quite impressive for a hotel; the evening cocktails were nice; AM hot beverage service was spot on and everything was crisp and clean. The location was convenient to all. We’ll be back soon.

We had a not so pleasant stay at the Sheraton Richmond driving through the State on the way to Florida so decided to try booking the Westin for the return. GREAT IDEA!!
What a lovely property! Arrived New Year's Eve to a very friendly and welcoming reception and stayed in a King room on the Club Floor. This Westin hotel must be brand new and is just beautiful, from the zen like atmosphere of the large lobby (what is that wonderful smell they use?) to our beautiful room with new furnishings and a fabulous marble bathroom and that all important wonderful Westin Heavenly Bed. The only hiccup we had was a one hour plus wait for room service (apparently they have an ongoing problem with the Service Express folks not communicating the orders very well to the kitchen)...but they fixed that and the food was very good. The Club lounge is gorgeous, although small (not certain if the floor was booked how crowded the lounge would be) but the breakfast offering was probably the best I have experienced in any Club lounge as a SPG Gold anywhere, fresh, plentiful and delicious. Well done! The lady who works the lounge was ever so pleasant. So...........we've booked another 2 nights.......and as road weary warriors, cannot wait for a "heavenly" sleep in this Westin again on our next upcoming drive through the State at the end of the month.

Room Tip: I think it would be a safe bet to say any room in this lovely hotel would be a good one, it's in...

Dear SidCanada, thank you for staying with us on your way down 95 and for booking your return already...we are looking forward to seeing you again in a few weeks. I am grateful for the generous comments about the hotel and the assocaites. We are very proud of our facility and our ability to exceed our guests expectations. What perfect timing, as this response is my first mention that I am proud to announce that we are expanding the size of our Club Lounge as I write this response. You will hopefully see the improved facility on your return at the end of the month. We have also been working hard to prevent recurrence on the speed and efficiency of the in room dining orders and I would say that this was an isolated incident. As we enter our 4th year of operations, we are still ranked as the #1 Westin in the nation for Overall Guest Satisfaction, and we look forward to exceeding your expectations upon your return. Stay well and travel safe, Feliks Schwartz - General Manager
