“At, not in, the river”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

We walked the footbridge over the river from Tredagar to the island, and along the banks of the river. The rapids and fall line along the canal offer a good view, especially with the leaf colors. The history panels along the canal walk and on the island help tell the story of early Richmond.

“Have to check it out when in Richmond”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012 via mobile

First of all it's free with beautiful views from any entrance you use. Off Meadow st you can access Texas Beach a dog friendly sandy area without a strong current. Pony pastures has an easy walking friendly short trail. Plenty of local options to kayak or tube down the river on your own or through a tour. I personally love the bike and jogging trails.

“Great Place to Spend a Sunday Afternoon!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

Whether you visit Pony Pasture Park or hike over to Bells Isle or just relax on the shore on one of many flat rocks, this is a very peaceful place to relax and regroup before the hectic week starts again. Fishing, kayaking or tubing...you can not go wrong!

“Beautiful historic river”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

Richmond has done a great job developing this and the canal areas. A very nice trail along a river that features some dramatic rapids and the ruins of old bridges that played their parts in the Civil War. Cool suspension pedestrian bridge that runs under the highway overpass and connects to Belle Island.
