“Problems currently, but still worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

During a recent trip to Western Sicily we went into the park both from the southern and the northern end. Unfortunately, you cannot go all the way through (or into the higher areas) because a fire in July has affected the safety of the paths (- presumably because the wooden supports/railings were destroyed). However, the park is certainly still worth a visit (and the 3 Euro entrance fee). The walk from the southern end is more severely restricted, although the fire damage at the northern end is more evident. It was good to see that the vegetation is in the process of recovering, with many of the damaged fan palms sprouting new growth from the top as well as the base.

“Must do if you're in the area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

I hiked the entire day and don't think I've had enough. Would have loved to come back. Can swim in any of the beautiful beaches when tired of walking. Do take enough water and a sun hat. I went in the summer and after 12 it was getting warmer and then hotter.

“A lovely walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

Unfortunately most of the reserve was closed when we visited due to fire risk. We could walk as far as the nearest beach, which was a pleasant little walk, and had a beautiful swim surrounded by fish at a beach with no umbrellas!

“Problems at the moment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

Sadly, there was a huge fire in July that has affected most of the Reserve. A small part is open, with 2 visitor centres (which were well laid out and interesting) and a delightful small swimming bay. Apart from a 1km. walk this is all there is. We didn't see any of the wildlife, except for the miniature pines, we had hoped to

“Beautiful, rugged, must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

We were in Scopello to hike this park and although it was not fully open due to recent fires/threat/dry conditions we had an amazing time. Hiked into one of the small beaches and spent the day swimming with the fish! The views and trails are excellent. It is a must see attraction if you are anywhere near Scopello.
