From Villa del Parco, a quite luxury retreat with a tropical mediterranean garden, we had a comfortable and private direct access of the "Terme del Forte" SPA & Thalassotherapy. Here we tried all the 6 salted water pools available. We want highlight a couple of treatments that we enjoyed and relaxed so much: the "4-hand Forte Massage" and the "Salt and honey massage". The first one is a synchronized heavenly four hands massage made by two women with knowledge and experience capable to detect your body issues and work on them softly or hardly at your choice. The second one is rejuvenating session which uses two different and opposite elements like the sweet honey of Sardinia and the salt of mediterranean sea. Our final score for these two experience together with the Thalassotherapy pools circuit is at the maximum of our Travelscore scale and is undoubtedly a 20/20.

Stayed 4 nights at Villa del Parco at Forte village in July 2013. We had 2 adjoining bungalows so the kids were next-door, with the door open it was just like one big room. The rooms were large and very comfortable and we had fizz and fruit on arrival waiting for us in our room! Breakfast on the hotel terrace was lovely with a wide range to choose from. We eat in 3 different restaurants in the evening, all were delicious.

Forte Village is a large resort and we didn't have time to see it all. The kids enjoyed the pools but the one with slides is saltwater which hurt their eyes so we didn't use that one again. We went to the beach which was nice but quite crowded with sun beds so not much room for the kids to play. There is a Go-Kart Track at the leisure village, this was the highlight for my husband & son!

The thing that stands out about Villa Del Parco is the quality of service we received, all the staff were so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, they made us feel very special!

When we booked our stay at Forte Village we didn't look at trip advisor and read any reviews nor did we even contemplate that the experience would have been like it was. Having stayed globally in some of the best resorts in the World, we expected the same level of experience considering the price. We were truly wrong.

The Forte Village is a confusing mix of hotels offering different services and levels of comfort at ridiculously high prices. This review captures our entire stay at the Forte Village, noting we were upgraded to the Villa del Parco because we complained on the first day about the state of our room.

Room(s)

Our adjoining "suites" in the Le Palme were small and dated. Being the beginning of the season, we were surprised to see large chunks of paint coming off the wall, many of the sheets on the beds were stained or dirty, instead of duvets there were old blankets on the beds, and even the hair dryers needed adapters to use.

Our adjoining villas in the Villa del Parco were also dated but much larger with more amenities than the 4-star Le Palme (like dressing gowns, conditioner and other bath products). Despite the notional quality, the rooms were not complete with curtains that didn't cover the whole window. Overall, the rooms need an upgrade. Most bathrooms had been renovated - it is time for the rooms too. At night though an added plus was the apertif that was delivered each evening.

The Kids Club

Our kids (9,7,6) thoroughly enjoy kids clubs around the World and truly looked forward to the experiential offerings that appeared to be on offer at Forte Village. They were truly disappointed. The "offerings" were poorly organised and bordered on crazy - we felt sorry for what the kids club staff were being asked to organise and the embarassment on their faces when the snacks that got delivered were two plates of potato chips for 20 kids. The kids area is equally aging. The pools and kids play areas are a disgrace. The path leading to the kids area had a rusted bench and exposed electrical cables. We will say though that the staff were great and really tried!!! The nightly disco and entertainment was a big plus for the kids but with a 9pm start, it was always a late night.

Dining

Depending on the hotel you choose you get offered different dining options, much to our amazement the supplements for some of these extra options were crazy - 68 and 48 euro per adult or children respectively. As a family of 5 this would have meant an extra cost of 280 euro before drinks. While the food in all the restaurants was excellent - it was not worth an extra 280 euro on top of our room rate (see note at end).

In particular, the Cavalieri buffet was excellent and a must visit. Both the Belvedere and Le Dune restaurants were equally enjoyed and we made several return visits at the kids choosing.

The Pizzeria snack restaurant near the beach had good pizza but the other dishes lacked flavour and on a regular basis would not come out together forcing us to all eat separately instead of together.

We chose to not dine at Gordon Ramsey's restaurant, because we struggled to grasp paying 150 euro each at a location which was in a state of disrepair - it did not look like any Gordon Ramsey restaurant I have been to.

Overall, all the drinks including alcohol were also expensive.

The Beach

The beach was relatively clean given the weather that was experienced, but the method for booking a sun bed and umbrella was confusing and while you could potentially get something booked for the week, you typically got stuck with the same for the entire week rather than another option. There were A LOT of vendors trying to sell things but luckily the staff were attentive to keeping them away from pestering the guests too much. If you do buy something, haggle because we got one vendor down 25 euro for 2 fishing nets.

The Extras

One of the biggest draw cards for us was the soccer academy. While an expensive venture when you compare the price to an actual Chelsea academy in the UK (over 200 euro more expensive), it was something that two of our kids absolutely adored and thrived at. The Chelsea coaching staff were sensational and despite struggling to cope with a few foreign guests who were rude, the academy was well worth the experience for our kids at the end of the week when you see how much the kids enjoyed. Unfortunately, with such a poor kids club and a cost for everything else, our third child got the raw end of the stick on this holiday.

Despite the high room rates you pay, there are many extras that aren't included. If you want to use the gym, it costs 90 euro extra per visit. Internet access is available at a weekly rate of 30 euro, in a hope to minimise usage by guests because of limited bandwidth. If you want a bike - bring your own because to hire the kids a bike, it costs 15 euro per day per bike. The go-kart track was a whopping 25 euro per child for 10 minutes of track time.

The night market was always a draw card for the kids needing that sugar rush to keep going at 10pm, but disappointingly you could not charge anything there back to your room, so always needed to carry cash.

The water sport activities also cost money but by far the best value was the motor boat that we hired for an hour to tour the cost at only 100 euro.

My wife tried the spa and thoroughly enjoyed it. She had a huge problem paying the prices on offer but we were able to convince her to at least try the spa experience.

Staff

One of the biggest positives of our week was the staff - We have to say though that the attentiveness of the staff and the level of customer service was first quality, especially once you identified a problem. The management was quick to address the problem and constantly strived to ensure you were happy - though it is a difficult challenge when you simply don't believe you are getting value for money.

Complaints

While we stayed at the resort we were asked by other families (while watching our kids play soccer) what we thought of the resort and they all had similar experiences or feedback.

Stayed with partner for a long weekend in June. With a perfect warm welcome from staff and the gorgeous sunshine and views it wasn't long before the hustle and bustle of London were left behind.
With of delicious food, relaxing spa treatments and time on the beach. We found everyone working there extremely helpful and friendly.
There is so much to do and see I would definitely recommend for families and couples.
It is isolated compared to the other hotels, and has private access to the beach and the spa. This was great and felt like our own island of paradise.

Thank you to all who made our stay unforgettable……

This lovely hotel has something for everyone! You can get lost in the beautiful grounds between the pools, restaurants, beach, and Leisure land. They have all different types of rooms that can accommodate anything you could need. We stayed in one side of a villa that had a fabulous bathroom, a private patio with lounge chairs, and a table. It was perfect for the two of us, quiet and peaceful. One of our favorite things was that you could check out a free bike to ride all over the property which was so much fun and made it quick to get around. The big pool had two water slides, and tons of room to relax poolside. It also had a convenient bar right in the pool area. The other pool we enjoyed was quiet but did have a diving board on one end. It was surrounded by restaurants overlooking the water and also had a small kiddie pool. Leisure Land was actually closed when we tried to go (late at night), but it looked like a blast and had something do for the whole family. We of course rode our bikes there through an underground tunnel to keep us from crossing the busy street, so that was nice at night.

The staff was very friendly and helped us whenever we needed it. We didn't try any of the spa treatments due to their expensive list, but we did go look around and it looked pretty serene and fancy. We did go down to the beach and it was a nice private set up for the guests of the hotel, and next time we will definitely have lunch at the bar over looking the water, that looked fabulous!

I would definitely plan on staying here again, with or with out kids!

Our family of four, including 2 children (5 & 4 years old) stayed at the Villa del Parco during the second week of June. We had a truly great time. The team at the VdP were exceptionally helpful in guiding us around the Forte Village amenities, arranging swimming lessons, booking restaurants etc, in addition to being warm and friendlly. The bungalow which we stayed in was the perfect size for our family and very comfortable; patio / terrace was ideal for evening drinks & relaxation. Our son attended the Rugby Academy and this was a real highlight of the trip for all of us. That said the Kids Club is second to none and it was quite difficult for us to extract our daughter from it! The facilities are reall yvaried (go-karting, ten pin bowling, spa, gym, golf et al) and we used as many as we could. We will certainly be returning next year!
