“Not a five star experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

My 18 year old daughter and I travelled to Forte Village for the first week in September. We had stayed when she was four and again when she was five. Not much appears to have changed (and that is not meant in a good way!).

After booking at the Villagio and being taken to our accommodation, the heavens opened and rain started pouring into the room. Called reception twice over a 40 minute period - nothing was done and no one called back. Once the rain had stopped walked to the reception and on being asked why nothing had been done was fobbed off with a shoulder shrug and smile!! After complaining to reception manager - we were finally installed at the Castello.

A nice room - but that is all.

As has been said on some other reviews - the food is nice - but it is the same most evenings. The breakfast buffet is good. The poolside service could be so much better. There is no menu at the poolside tables - surely missing a trick here.

To swim in the sea was wonderful - but the beach hawkers make staying there impossible. Every five minutes (no exaggeration) you are approached and some find it hard to take no for an answer. It is NOT a private beach.

I didn't find the service particularly good - not bad but in no way as high as some other people found. There is a very strange assortment of shops - a selection of expensive clothes stores - and very little in the way of what you might expect to find in a beach resort.

The whole place needs refurbishing as the setting is wonderful.

One big downside though is the very, very loud music that starts at about 9.00 and went on until 11.30 every night. We were a good distance from the main square, but, even with the windows closed, you could hear every word. No idea why it has to be this loud.

Having been three times now over the past 14 years - I think that this will be the last time.

The overall facilities and service at Forte are good but not 5 star and the service is inconsistent due to the fact I think that this place is huge and was built a long time ago. It needs a revamp. It doesn’t really know what it wants to be; it wants to be everything and cater for everyone but it’s a compromise for everyone and therefore doesn’t really nail it. I would not recommend it or go back. In comparison with other places I have been it is average. The only true 5 star experience was in the Le Dune restaurant at breakfast; this was very nice, on the beach it was calm and serene. The manager of the section we were in was run by a very professional lady (Debora Concas) who was excellent. Maybe it is no accident that the Le Dune restaurant is next to her office? If the rest of Forte was at this level then it would be excellent.

The buffet restaurant used for breakfast and dinner looks great at first sight but it is the same stuff every day. When it rains everyone is forced inside into a very small restaurant; the staff cannot cope it was chaos akin to a motorway service station, not a 5 star experience. Wine was 3 times the price it should have been. Whilst out and about it was difficult to get a drink by a swimming pool, no staff available. The place gives the impression that it is great for kids, but not if they are very young, the place is not pram friendly in all locations and the childcare facilities were poor. The entertainment was very loud (rock band loud) that went on till 11pm every night. This was like listening to the worst of the X factor contestants for 2 hours, this kept the kids awake in the room which was very annoying.

What was Excellent

Le Dune restaurant

What was good:

The location by the beach
The available facilities
Breakfast in the beachfront restaurant
The room
The Jazz combo at breakfast and dinner

What was average

Food on half board basis
Service
Childcare facilities

What was bad

Loud Music every night
Very poor service outside of main hotel
Children’s lagoon pool is dangerous
Beach Hawkers
No gym outside of spa

We have been there in September. Forte Village is a very beautiful place where you feel yourself like in Paradise! Very green and comfortable territory around, perfect food, gorgeous interior, friendly staff!

I have decided to celebrate the 40th year birthday of my husband at Forte Village and we stayed at the Hotel Castello. The entire stay was incredibly well organized and we have been pampered since the first second we put our foot in this Paradise.
At our arrival we have been welcomed by the bell guy and then via electric car we have been escorted to the Hotel Castello where the wonderful Hotel Manager, Marcello, was waiting us with his beautiful smile.
Smile is something free of charge but is often the most important gesture a human being can receive.
Everyone at Forte Village smile at you and you really feel home.
Our room was wonderful, perfectly clean with top amenities.
We celebrated the 40th year birthday with a fantastic aperitif at the blue moon, opened for us in exclusive use. This night club is just on the sea and offers one of the best view ever and the most elegant drinks and canapés.
The dinner was at the Gordon Ramsay restaurant. Also a great location. The chef was Fabio Cirillo, a young talented chef that offered us a creative but simple menu. Top quality.
After dinner we went to the Leisureland and had a true go-kart race! Great fun!!
We also had a few kids with us (as we were 4 families) and they all enjoyed so much!
This place is just a Paradise and we can't wait to come back next year!

Room Tip: it is very simple! Just ask the reservation staff and explain them what you want! They helped us a l...

The hotel needs renovating, I was kept awake until 1.00am every morning from loud music in the resort and then woken by the little noisy staff carts that rattled past our room at 7am every morning.
It took 3 days to manage to hire bikes which were rusty and extremely over priced like every thing else in the resort.
Most of the staff were rude and definitely more interested in the very large group of Russian guests than the English.

Have been again at the Hotel Castello and confirmed is a great place: great location, amazing staff, delicious food and the Forte Village is one of the top Sardinian hotels.
The staff is so friendly and the village is so safe thst my son fells at home and told me that when in Sardinia wants to live at the Forte Village!!!
Is also amazing that the staff is mainly local and trained at international level with experience built working around Europe in top hotels and resorts...and as Sardinian I can say that it makes me prod of beeing from that lovely island!!

We chose Forte Village because we have a 2.5 yr old and wanted a place that offers both luxury and great facilities for little'uns....

PROS:
- Stunning green surroundings (and very well maintained grounds)
- 3 Very good restaurants (Dune/Gordon Ramsey/ Belvedere)
- Beachfront location
- Lots of facilities for kids (especially good for sporty 5-13 yr olds I would say)

CONS:
- Service :Restaurant staff in the buffets did not know what they were serving when asked...
- Service :A lot of the staff did not know what restaurants were open day to day.
- Service :A lot of the staff did not have 'can do attitude' that you get in other top end hotel resorts. The common answer to many very basic requests was 'no, sorry'...
- Tired looks in places (rooms could do with a lick of paint. No kettle etc, TV channels all fuzzy and un-watchable 1970's type phones, decor etc, very weak Wifi in most places..)
- Buffets and Set Menu restaurants offered only a limited menu (e.g. nothing for the veggie wife in either 'Sardo' (2 main meal choices: Lamb or Fish) or 'Forte Grill' (Steak or Chicken)
- Hawkers (was told beach was private. Not the case - "looky looky" men interrupting you every 4-9 minutes to almost comedy levels...)
- "Add on" charges that other hotels offer for free (25 Euros for a game of table pool: They charge by the hour, WiFi 45 Euros for the week)

In summary, all of the failings can be overcome (i.e. they are not structural or location issues) - it is about Senior Management creating a culture within staff of pro-activity; and the management itself taking on feedback.
I would need to know these failing have been resolved before recommending or coming back again.

Room Tip: We chose Hotel Castello after advice that, given a choice between Dune and Castello, Castello was fu...
