“A charming hotel, in a place that's lots in time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

Just returned from a weeks stay in Cala Gonone staying at the Brancamaria Hotel. The staff are very friendly and the hotel spotlessly clean with good size rooms. The food was excellent and the service very good, Maria made us feel very special. Raffaelle was very friendly and made each trip a wonderful experience.
Please ignore the previous negative reviews, they just don't do the hotel justice, a truly wonderful place lost in time.

I'm just back from a week at the Brancamaria and loved every minute! When we arrived we thought the rooms were quite basic, which they are, but are spotlessly clean and a good size with lovely views over the sea. The staff are all wonderful especially Raffaelle who drives you to and from town. We had a storm one afternoon so we phoned the hotel. He was outside the bar we were in within 10 mins. He made us feel we were the only guests! The food is really good. The 2 starter courses are excellent and the mains, apart from a rather tough steak one evening, were also good. The village is 15mins walk away but with the lovely Raffaelle on hand you don't have to walk. I travel extensively and this may not be the glitziest hotel I've ever stayed in but the staff have made it one of my favourites!

Room Tip: choose a sea view.

We had read all the previous reviews and came to the conclusion that as long as you didn't have too many meals at the hotel it was ok. We pretty much agreed with this. We opted for B+B. The breakfast was functional and did the job, better than trying to find somewhere each morning. We then used the plentiful restaurants in Cala Gonone and the rest of e island for food for the rest of the day, some were good and others were excellent.

The hotel otherwise was clean, well maintained, had good facilities (wifi, pool, bar and lounge etc). We had no complaints with the service although we were not there most of the time. If you are considering Cala Gonone over Orosei as we were (many of the hotels seem to be in one of the two) there is no competition. Orosei is a dull, working town with very little to maintain interest where as Cala Gonone was beautiful and an excellent spot to base yourselves.

The hotel is a short distance from the town (downhill on the way) which if you don't mind a walk is ok but there is a shuttle service. Most rooms appeared to have small Juliet Balconies but don't be fooled by the additional supplement option of a mountain view, they either have mountain or sea (in our opinion sea would have been better) but either view is nice.

All in all not too bad at all.

We stayed here in May 2014 for 7 nights and had an excellent week. The hotel is probably only a couple of years old if that and everything was in pristine condition. The hotel staff were probably the friendliest I have ever encountered, helpful, usually very efficient and all done with a smile. We ate here every night and enjoyed the food, options were limited but we always found a choice we liked however had we wanted chips we would have been disappointed ;-). The public areas of the hotel are all maintained to a high standard as was our room. The 25 metre pool is excellent, I used it every day though it was a little cool in late May. The only downside of hotel is that it's located about 20 minutes walk, up hill, from the harbour and main beach and the last 300 yards doesn't have a pavement although there is a path. To counter this the hotel run a regular mini bus service to the town. When we were staying this operated roughly hourly from 9 am to 7 pm and was efficient and friendly. Sardinia is a lovely island and Cala Gonone a lovely little resort. If you are staying in the area then do take one of the many one day boat trips to the various beaches and hire a car for at least a couple of days so you can see some other parts of the island and it's great scenery. Oh and one last point if you hate motorbikes, no matter who is riding them, then don't go to Sardinia. Sardinia is full of middle aged blokes riding big bikes but they are a bunch of teddy bears really.

Recently returned from staying at this hotel came back relaxed and rested, couldn't fault service and staff very friendly and helpful. Being given an evening meal came as a bonus as it was not expected. 3/4 course meals generous portions very tasty especially pasta dishes. Rooms comfortable and clean with fresh towels and linen provided daily. Hotel is 20 mins walk from beach etc uphill, did not deter us. Hotel does provide a shuttle bus with an hourly service each way less busy times will come and collect you if you ring them, that's service. Thanks for a great stay Sardinia is lovely at this time of year not crowded able to stroll into a cafe and get seated easily make sure you take the boat trip around the bay

Room Tip: Room at front gives you a sea view across the bay the room we had was at the rear gave views of the...

We stayed here in October 2013, transfer time from airport is quite long. The hotel is at the top of the hill, with the town at the bottom, but the shuttle bus was very handy and punctual.

We were here at the end of the season, so it was very quiet, which is what we wanted. The area is beautiful and could not recommend enough taking the boat to Cala Luna and also hiring a rib for the day to visit the other beaches. The sea is beautiful and clear, great for swimming, would recommend beach shoes for swimming, as it is quite rocky.

We were particularly disappointed with the food, you were given a menu at breakfast time and had to choose your main course, which at times was inedible, a few times, we stayed in the town and ate excellent pizza and pasta and drank rather good and cheap prosecco!

Myself and my partner stayed here in August 2013 half board. The hotel is clean, and the staff are helpful and polite. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The only issue is that the location is quite a way from Cala Gonone uphill. There is a reliable mini bus that takes you in to town, and down to the beach, and you can get it back up to the hotel. The only issue is that it stops pretty early, so not great for going out in the evening.
The food was hit and miss. Breakfast was fine- a continental buffet. Dinner, which you order at breakfast, was mixed. Often the first two courses were quite nice, however the mains were often disappointing and sometimes awful (avoid the swordfish in a white wine sauce!). We ended up going to the restaurant just up from the hotel by the roundabout, which was always full of locals. The food there was delicious.
So overall, the hotel is ok, and Sardinia is lovely.
