“Looked at Hotel - Didn't Stay...Here's why”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2011

Between all the colorful, charming pictures of Bosa and this hotel and other hotels' websites, we were so looking forward to staying here. But being the off season decided to not make any reservations. Thanks the gods above!!

We were hoping to stay at one of their hotels so we stopped by the one by the river where one would have to check in anyhow. I got out of the car a block from the hotel and got hit with the stench of sewage. Oh my!! I got to the hotel and it got worse. Remember, they are on a river....The lady at the desk said all the other hotels were not open, just this one. Ewww!!! I agreed to look at a room anyways since we went thru all the trouble, and it was a toned down version of their dreamy website pix. But considering the weather was mild and it smelled so bad, we decided against staying. The only way we wouldn't be smelling the sewage was to shut the windows day and night. No way to stay in a hotel room. Also, there's no elevator for those with large luggage.

We decided on a ho-hum place AWAY from old town near or at the river.

In this case, the book's cover didn't reveal the whole story...SO very glad we didn't book ahead.

This hotel in Bosa is really great with a terrific location opposite the canal and two minutes walk to the old town. We've got a big apartment with everything we needed at a good price. The breakfast was in a lovely cellar and it was good. We were on a biking trip in Sardinia, and they were a really biking friendly hotel.

We agree fully with other visitors that this small hotel has a great deal of charm, a good location, and a staff that seems to enjoy making clients happy. We spent 5 nights in room 133 which is pleasantly furnished, and with a lovely view of the river and street from its 3rd floor windows.

During our stay we realized, however, that there was absolutely no way to escape from the room in case of fire or even smoke. We talked to the hotel manager about this, and he claimed that his hotel is in full accordance with Italian safety regulations, i.e. no emergency exits, no water sprinklers or smoke detectors are required. We cannot question this statement.

The issue is not purely hypothetical as our room was at the very top of a steep stairwell with access to linen depots, electrical cabinets, and a hall/TV-room. Smoke developing at night in any of the adjoining areas will quickly fill the stairwell, and will either kill you in your sleep, or wake you up to the decision of jumping out of a 3d floor window.

One may argue that it is more important to think of life instead of death in Italy. Maybe it was the Manager's casual remark: "We just hope that nothing happens" that made me decide to issue this warning to clients and tour operators. In my opinion no amount of charm and good service will ever justify renting out rooms that are death traps.

Location of the hotel is great and it's easy to find being on the main street next to the river. Parking was on the street, if you could find a place. We were really disappointed with the standard of the 'suite' we stayed in. We had booked a standard double so were not expecting anything grand. The suite consisted of two bedrooms, one of which had two single beds and was reminiscent of a cell, the main bedroom contained a bed settee. In the bathroom the shower was hanging off the wall (it did work) and the hairdrier was broken. The gentleman on duty went home to get me a replacement which appeared within minutes. Excellent customer service! All the staff were very nice. We were offered an alternate room in another building elsewhere in Bosa but declined on the basis it may have been worse. The room had absolutely no character , but it could have been so different with even a proper bed. Breakfast was a basic Italian style with no variation over the 5 days we stayed there.
We ate in a restaurant advertised in the hotel, which must have been linked somehow to the proprietors. This was excellent - food and service was amazing. Their menu had loads of choice and they had fresh fish every night.

We checked in to this hotel at short notice on 16th September after a disastrous experience with our self catering accommodation in the old town. The reception staff speak English and could not have been more helpful, finding us a quiet room near the centre of the town with a lovely sun terrace and completely salvaging what was left of our holiday. The room was bright and airy and clean with a sympathetically renovated modern bathroom. There are several flights of stairs in all of the properties in the old town as Bosa is a medieval town with all the houses built over 3 or more levels. The building we were in however has a lift which takes you all or most of the way depending on which floor you are on. Breakfast is a perfectly adequate continental affair with fresh breads, cheese, meats, yogurt and fruit as well as good coffee and juice and some cereals. The waiting staff speak limited English, but there's nothing complicated about breakfast so it wasn't a problem and they were extremely friendly despite our sparse Italian!! Bosa itself is charming without being overly touristy yet, although clearly there is quite a bit of regeneration and development going on so that may change. There is a good selection of eateries offering local Sardinian fare at a range of prices and are pretty good value for money. We based ourselves here for 10 days, but frankly if we had to do it again we would stay a little further south on this coast closer to Oristano and perhaps just visit Bosa for a night or two. The coastal road to Alghero gets lots of good press, but again, the coastal scenery on the east coast is more spectacular and we were appalled at the amount of litter strewn along the road at every point you might be able to stop - Alghero was so busy we couldn't even manage to get a parked so we just turned round and came back - one to miss in our opinion. Go south towards Oristano and visit the lovely beaches further down this coast - S'Archittu or San Giovanni - and don't forget the ruins at Tharros.

Nice hotel right in the centre of Bosa on the river. We had to climb several flights of stairs (but then this is a medieval town in Italy).
Room was clean and fresh, lovely view of the river. Bathroom could use a little work though (nowhere to hang towels, a little bit of mould around the shower).
Breakfast was good, but watch out for the pigeons in the open courtyard!
Helpful and friendly staff. Overall good quality/price ratio.

We stayed here for 3 nights in early June and loved it. We paid extra for a roof terrace which looked out over the rooftops of Bosa. We were very happy with our beautiful traditional Sardian room. Very clean, modern and fresh bathroom. Peaceful location friendly people and excellent wine and food added to the holiday. We would definitely return and strongly recommend it to any one that wants a non commercial location. Perfect base to explore from.
